Very mild this morning, half moon high above. I'm in shorts again. I saw a 'possum (alive, not road kill!) and a deer.

Yesterday on my way home it was breeze to ride home. No wind and I was just cruising along with no effort. My best commute speed so far 16.4 MPH according to Strava. Did not commute today due to rain since last night. Will try lunch riding though if it stops raining.

55F and raining. Too dark for sunglasses, a first for this season.

Also, I realized I could take the green route to my office instead of the red route like I've been doing for 6-8 years and have so many fewer intersection/parking lot interactions. Vastly superior.

Johnny Mullet, thanks for the encouragement. Now I can claim I'm strong. Or explain why I'm so slow. Or maybe even both.
rhm, funny that you should call this morning's weather mild. I had some strong winds along the Hudson. Damn, this place is so much windier than New Jersey. I wish I had hills instead.
Yesterday going home, a woman was changing her shirt. No one died of shock.

He showed me his detailed spreadsheet where he tracks everything. He's figured out how many miles he rode instead of driving, his per-mile expenses for driving broken down by year, and all of his bicycle related expenses. I found it amusing that after seven years he's only ahead $157.

I did the "leave early - go to gym - then to work" route today, but I changed up the route from gym to work a bit. The traffic seemed lighter so I stayed on the highway that is straight and flat instead of getting off and weaving through neighborhoods.
After one stop light I got into the drops and averaged 21+mph for two miles. That even included slowing a bit for another red light that changed to green as I approached.
A good ride in and glad to see Friday.

Sixteen plus is great! That means you were probably well above that at times to average out the slower turns or stops at intersections.

Really wanted to bike commute today but raining with 15MPH wind is not definitely day for bike commute.

ughhh 2nd week in a row of only 1 commute day per week. I was ready to go yesterday morning, then decided not to with the forecast rain and wind and cold front. I was ready to go today and bailed again, for no reason other than I just didn't want to get out of bed that early. Also my legs have been a bit sore this week because I used some different muscle groups on Tuesday's commute that I'm not normally used to.

Cool morning ride, 3C/37F, but I was dressed for it with long shorts and long, wool, cross-country ski socks. I wore a Buff (wrapped as a beanie) to keep my bald head and ears warm. I was surprised that my hands (albeit in long-fingered gloves) did not get cold as they tend to do so.

On the way home the other day I got to draft a city bus for several blocks. It wasn't going very fast, maybe 25MPH, but it was a very effortless 25MPH on my part.

I mailed mine the other day, then I got a second one in the mail (I vote absentee), plus I have a ballot I could print off. I will be honest and only cast one vote though.
There hasn't been much cycling for me other than to the park with kids, in some of those huge rains we had last weekend, we got drenched in our full rain gear but still had fun. The slide was super fast and the boy loved it.
I did get into the ocean when the family took a trip with friends to Tofino. Due to medical limits I didn't surf this year. The boy had a great time boogie boarding, and I hope that next year we will stay for the week and I can get into the water without concern for the leg. The group we went with are all highly educated, other than kids, I was the least educated with two bachelors and a maters degree.
I had a job interview last week and I am waiting to hear from them. I should be a shoe in with my science background. But all I can do is wait. At least I got the interview, a friend has been in the same boat, no schools are hiring subs.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Lot of rain coming home last night, big lake on the kitchen floor from my coat and panniers

I know exactly how you feel. It was years before Google showed me this shortcut in blue and another year until I realized I could avoid most of the parking lot with the red route.

Yeah... Google Maps will avoid a tiny suburban street with no paint in favor of a massive artery with a bike lane painted on it, and they will only route you on streets.
Going stir-crazy without bike rides, starting to feel weak and schlubby

I had hopes when I was using mytracks that Google would learn my routes and start to suggest them to myself (or other people) but that never happened. Especially w/ regard to shortcuts through parking lots etc...

I haven't had that experience with Google maps. I've used it a lot, and it routinely puts me on bike paths and side streets. I was particularly impressed on a couple of 40 mile rides down into Indiana from Chicago where I had no idea where I was going. I followed it blindly, and both were very nice rides on mostly paths, some residential streets.

A very nice commute in today at 47f degrees with partly cloudy skies in the dark. I did see a raccoon come out from the side of the street I was riding on he crossed ahead of me and when he saw the car ran back to my side of the road. From the grass on the side of the road he looked at me and ran back in the woods, like I am the big threat.

I live for Mondays! Absolutely perfect ride in today.
Now to take my 8 hour break before the next bike ride, the two hour ride home.

A nice cool 47F for the start, warming to 52 or so. These fall, less humid days are just wonderful to ride in. I got out with some friends yesterday for a good group ride of 40 miles or so. A couple of us pushed it on a hill or strava segment or two. That meant I was just fine with a nice easy ride in this morning.
