Good headwind this morning.. I think. On my route it's hard to tell which way the wind is actually blowing! Chain came off the front on a extremely dangerous hill this morning. Both bikes does the same.. guess I need to do some reading.

40F and beautiful!
My commute is great! I can't wait for the moon to get full again, because riding in that predawn moonlight is just magical. The MUP takes me along the Platte River in Denver, and the river by moonlight is just beautiful.
It was a little chilly, especially one section where I dip into a valley along a Platte tributary. Always makes me say yikes! I am pleased, I finally swapped out my sneakers with lots of mesh for my summer hiking boots with wool socks, and my feet are much warmer on these cold mornings.

This morning I wore:
- earwarmer band
- fingerless cycling gloves
- wool cycling jersey
- sleeveless base layer
- high-viz long sleeve wicking shirt
- cycling shorts with minimal chamois
- legwarmers
- wool hiking socks
- summer Ariat hiking boots

I got stung by a bee 200 ft from work. Felt a pinch on my collar bone and found some bee guts and a stinger in my skin. Hurt like hell, and it's the first time I've been stung in literally 15 years, but at least I found out I'm not allergic!

I didn't ride to work on Friday because I was tired from riding Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I didn't ride into work today because I was tired from riding 60 miles yesterday (in the Tour de Bronx), though I did ride to the post office on the way to the subway.

My commute was...oh yeah I didn't commute at all. I recently had 3 weeks off work and have to burn up the rest of my use-or-lose leave by taking 3-4 day weekends for the rest of the year. Wait...what were we talking about here?

The commute this morning was a nice uneventful ride, with the temp at 37f degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Between a couple of extra miles in the morning and afternoon, I managed a 30 mile round trip yesterday.
Nice weather still - cool mornings require a jacket and lightweight gloves, but I'm still holding onto the shorts. Forecast for tomorrow morning is 40F though, so not sure if I'll want to suffer through that or not.

39F this morning and I think we've reached the point where fair weather commuters are done - only 3 other riders on the MUP

Definitely a morning where the leggings and jacket were required. I think it was 36F, and I was actually too warm until I hit the downhill part of the ride. That balanced things out for a while. Eventually unzipped the jacket though and pulled off the full finger gloves. It was nice to have warm legs though. So, I was able to pedal pretty hard and make good time.

Yesterday I broke my personal record on my way home. 18MPH with help of a tailwind. 42 minutes riding time for 12.6 miles. Felt great. This morning was bit cold high 30s. Not much wind. I'm getting used to bike commuting which is great!

Today was my first bike commute in about two weeks due to vacation last week and having to work out of my office (with a car) the week before that. Unfortunately, I missed riding in the nicest weather we've had all year, but the weather also made for a great vacation.
The missed commutes means that it will be a struggle to reach 40,000 miles bike commuting by the time that I retire in early 2017. Earlier this year, I thought that I would easily top the 40K mark by this fall, based on my usual commuting patterns. However, a combination of terrible weather and work commitments have thrown a wrench into that plan.
The good news is that I plan to retire at the end of January after working for 40+ years and bike commuting the past 10 years. My cycling mileage will probably decline after I retire and no longer bike commute, but I will still do plenty of riding for recreation and travel.

40K is just a number - you've had outstanding consistency over years. Well done.

Thanks, WPH. I am a bit of a numbers geek and use it for motivation, but it really doesn't matter if I end up with 39,999 miles.
BTW, while I was out, we had to deal with Hurricane Matthew and it was devastating in NC. I work with the state emergency response team, which I why I had to work that week with my car. The flooding here was incredible, on par with Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Fortunately, I didn't suffer any personal damage, but the greenways in my city were heavily flooded and washed out in places. Many portions of the trails that I frequently ride on were covered with floodwaters ranging from 4-12' deep for a while. Some parts of the trails may be closed for repairs for months.

My afternoon commutes have been plagued by gnats lately, especially (but not only) along the half mile of canal towpath. Sometimes clouds of them, bouncing off my face like snowflakes, getting in my eyes, tangled in my arm hair, stuck in my clothes. Ugh. Maybe it's cold enough to keep the little buggers down now....

Drove; needed to pick up a 20' ladder.
Tomorrow, would love to ride, have a chance at a 15 mile commute straight to a meeting which is late enough I'd have time to cool down and change but also scheduled the car for 150k mile service so will drop the car at garage and take a company car to the meeting.

I recently moved for my new job and it is a 3.5 mile bike ride from work. Rode to work for the first time yesterday in uber-rare southern california rain and again this morning. I am extremely happy that I am fortunate enough to be able to commute this way and get to riding my bike again!

Seeing other posters' comments about speed and mileage make me want a cycle computer! I imagine I am quite slow, but it would be awesome to know what my top speed currently is, and to track progress over time.
This morning was 55F! So warm! I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I sometimes get antsy that the ride is so uneventful, but I should be happy about that fact.
I did see two pairs of eyes as two young raccoons scuttled across the MUP this morning. They were pretty far away, but I tried to turn my light downward, away from their sensitive little eyes. Always warms my heart to see them paired up like that. Probably littermates exploring the world? Raccoons are adorable and smart.
