45F, blinding sun. About 20F warmer than usual for these kind of conditions this time of year.

Phil_gretz 11-29-16 07:13 AM

High 40s and spritzy blowing rain this morning. It was still a pretty nice ride in. Yesterday evening's tailwind was quite enjoyable. I'll have a similar ride home today, but with warm rain. Yay.

mgw4jc 11-29-16 07:20 AM

Blustery.
I was blustered from the left.
I was blustered from the right.
I was blustered from the front.
But I never seemed to find that tail bluster.
Maybe the ride home will be more favorable. Rain is expected, but hopefully tapering off before 5pm.

I did see a very sad sight on one through road. A yorkie was laying dead in the road, leash still on.

Tundra_Man 11-29-16 08:57 AM

Tough ride in.

Rained last night and then the temp dropped to 31F, so the pavement had a good layer of ice on it. I rode the winter bike and the studded tires had no problems while the cars and trucks around me slid all over. Thankfully there were no close calls.

Brutal headwind. Not sure how fast the wind was blowing, but it was coming straight at me the whole way to work. My already crazy slow winter bike became even slower. I averaged about 9 mph for an 8 mile ride. By the time I arrived it felt like I had just ridden a century. Even dropping down into low gears had me mashing the pedals just to keep the bike moving at times against the gusts. Wound up getting to work nearly a half hour late.

I really, really hate riding my winter bike. But I really, really, really hate driving to work.

Wolfhaven 11-29-16 09:12 AM

Wet, damp, soggy, yuck. Left my headcover and gloves in the garage after riding last Friday. This morning, days later, everything was still as wet as when I laid it out. Wore a pair of old insulated work gloves and just dealt with the wet headcover. Roads were soaked so I used the touring bike with fenders. Looking like things are going to stay wet like this for a few more days. Be nice to see some sun again. Traffic was light which helps.

esmith2039 11-29-16 09:12 AM

Cooler but I'd rather have that than the wind! The wind was brutal here also.

tarwheel 11-29-16 09:20 AM

I wimped out and drove today. The forecast is calling for a high probability of light rain, but mainly my legs just needed a rest. I had ridden close to 200 miles of the past week, and was feeling ti.

arsprod 11-29-16 10:18 AM

Wind seems the operative word today - a warm 47F with 10-15mph headwinds.

The ride home last night was scary. I worked late so didn't leave until about 7p and it had been raining steadily since early afternoon. Winds were gusting up mid/upper 20's but mostly behind me. The last 1/4 of my ride is in a heavily wooded part of the MUP and between the darkness and rain and fog on my glasses I almost ran into a tree that had fallen all the way across the trail. I was able to walk around and continue. Just as my heart rate was starting to stabilize I "ran into" another monster double trunked behemoth that was blown over. I had to go through/over/between this one. As Jeremy Clarkson says, a little poo came out! This morning I talked to the DPW guys who were clearing the first - they said they were having to bring in a special crew for the monster tree.

32 F and overcast. Over dressed too much for the recent cold. Only the diehard commuters are out these days.

40F, more cloud cover than last night. Mountains still all hiding in their private snowstorms they are keeping away from the rest of us.

ptempel 11-29-16 10:54 AM

^ Nice skies there. It was 56F or so but got a light rain in the morning. It will rain over an inch for today and tomorrow (2 inches total). Heard that we are around 8 inches short on rain for the season. So I guess we need it. Looking forward to more rain going home. Hopefully not swimming back to the car kind of rain. This advisory says the that rain might taper off a bit toward quitting time:

Yesterday, I noticed that a NYC cop car pulled a cyclist over right before the sidewalk to get on the GWB (Cabrini Blvd). So it looks like the cops are out in force for the end of the month? Watch out at those stop signs and stop lights.

noglider 11-29-16 11:34 AM

I had to haul stuff yesterday, and I was able to do that on the subway, so I didn't ride. Today, it's raining, and I'm working from home. I have a singing gig tomorrow, so no bike tomorrow, either. I hope to ride on Thursday.

TheNormanRider 11-29-16 01:11 PM

41F this morning, light wind. Overslept so I ended up driving to work so I could make it on time. I'll be back on the bike tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll take advantage of the vehicle and go get a haircut after work, and also pick up the dry cleaning. A driver was killed near my work place earlier; not sure what happened but a co-worker and I saw the wreck prior to learning about the fatality. Ride safe out there!

That is SO SAD about the yorkie. I wonder where that dog's human was? And the driver who killed the dog? This summer, I saw a crow in the road, dead from being hit by a car, and cried and cried.

dcb23 11-30-16 05:49 AM

Fog

mgw4jc 11-30-16 07:16 AM

Yesterday morning's blusteriness calmed down some, but I did get a decent tailwind pushing me home to a 18mph average speed. I was home 3-5 minutes faster than normal. Woohoo!

65F and 90% humidity feels like a summer morning. I'm back to just shorts and a t-shirt for the ride. Still windy too. We're getting some much needed rain, but so far I've only ridden on the wet streets. That may change at 5pm today though.

TheNormanRider 11-30-16 07:25 AM

32F this morning and virtually no wind which is highly unusual for Oklahoma. Got a slightly late start out the door, about 15 minutes after my normal departure time. Not sure if it was just my imagination or what, but there did seem to be a few extra cars on the road. My winter gear kept me very warm, so that was money well spent. Glad to be back in the saddle!

Tundra_Man 11-30-16 08:21 AM

More rain/snow, ice and harsh head wind this morning. At least today's client office was only half the distance from yesterday's.

arsprod 11-30-16 08:43 AM

43F, clear, little wind - back to boring which is fine with me!

Wolfhaven 11-30-16 09:09 AM

Cool as I stepped outside this morning. Spitting snow/rain the entire ride. Nothing to get wet by though. Had a minivan I didn't recognize pass and give me a tap on the horn after he got by. A regular caught me as I was going through a small but very tight S curve, sat behind me and as we came out of the second turn he got beside me, revved his engine and chirped the tires. I laughed and he waved as he pulled in front. Then as I was approaching my left turn onto a bike path a car came up and slowed way down to stay behind me so I could move over so I signaled my intent and slid over enough to the left so he could pass as I turned. Nice to have some courtesy out there. Looking like rain for my ride home. This time I did pack the MC Hammer rain pants.

kellichou 11-30-16 09:12 AM

This morning was beautiful! 18F, clear, only a little windy. I was slightly overdressed but didn't care. First time breaking out my Columbia Omni-Heat winter boots (I have been riding with my summer hiking boots, but figured this morning would be just too cold). I wore the Columbia boots with one pair of Darn Tough wool socks, and my feet were delightfully warm the whole way.

ptempel 11-30-16 09:31 AM

Similar to yesterday temp wise but no rain. Only wet roads. However, I fully expect to get wet later on. Wringing your clothing to get the extra water out kind of wet. :) Its supposed to go up to 60F later on so its nice to have warm temps at least. Will need to take it easy and go slower on the Ft Lee Rd downhill like yesterday. Speaking of going slower, I recently replaced my brake pads with the good old Kool Stop salmon ones.

They still rock and will stay with them. Swissstop are nice but are more expen$ive.

KCBikeCommuter 11-30-16 09:57 AM

Mid-30's this morning, with a windchill into the upper 20's. Had a fairly strong headwind for the first 1/3 of the commute, but once I turned south it became a crosswind... which was definitely better.

RidingMatthew 11-30-16 11:27 AM

I have decided to drive the past two days. I want to make sure I stay healthy. We had 10-20 mph winds and .25" of rain yesterday. I think today when I would be riding home it would be a thunderstorm with strong winds and .53" of rain through out the evening.

rhm 11-30-16 02:42 PM

Seriously foggy this morning. My headlights just illuminated a cloud of fog in front of me, barely showed me where I was riding at all. An animal ran across the road in front of me, and I have no idea what it was.
