It winded at about 15mph from the west during this morning's ride. It looks like it will be winding again this afternoon when I ride home. Uneventful ride this morning with a tiny headwind, but man I'm sick of these cool morning temps. Bring on the 60's and above so I can ride both to and from work with shorts/jersey only! |
just a quarter mile this morning, from the car mechanic to the office. I get to ride home in glorious 80F sunshine though. My wife who ran into work this morning will drive it home (if the work is done).

I had a fantastic ride to work yesterday morning, possibly the best. I have awful pain in my feet when I ride, and I think my next step in pursuing it is a podiatrist's office. But yesterday morning, I didn't have any. No back or neck pain, either. The weather was gorgeous.
I stopped upon a guy who had a flat tire, and I helped him. We put in my spare tube, and I took his punctured tube home. He had a pretty big staple in his tire. I better remember to patch that tube before I go out again. Riding home was tough. I usually have headwinds in the morning, but the ride back was quite windy. The pain in my feet did come back for some reason. I don't know why it went away in the morning. I drove my wife's car to work this morning. I really don't like doing this. A horrible smell has developed inside the car, so I brought it to the detailing shop. It's a rainy day, so the detailing guy isn't working today, so all that trouble wasn't worth it. I also had to spend a good bit of time finding a parking spot. |

joeyduck that's great! HUB classes or some low-key group-rides or something might be in order for the wife's ease of mind. Low-key sociable group rides, not the hard-core roadies!
Velopalooza pinkfloyd the seawall, or summer solstice ride or something, not the triple crown for heart. More and more commuters out every day! |

I'm doing the #30daysofbiking too and committing to it has forced me to ride in on days that I might not have (this morning's -17C/1F, windchill -24C/-11F). I'm also riding on the weekend which, again, because of cool weather and no other reason to go for a ride, I'm doing anyway.
I'm posting my rides also to: http://www.bikeforums.net/general-cy...ys-biking.html Keep up the good work!! It has continued to be windy (sometimes even drizzly) every single day, so #30daysofbiking has definitely been a kick in the pants to keep getting out there and riding. I took it too easy this past winter, and I'm a little behind schedule in shedding that extra weight... |
It was another nice commute this am, with the temp at 48f degrees and no wind. It will get breezy today(per the weather person on local tv) but that beats gusty winds by a landslide.
|
The wind was only partly in my favor yesterday. On one good section I was barely pedaling and going over 20mph. On a not so good section I was holding the handlebars tightly to keep from being blown off the road.
My wife drove me to work today. The family will be picking me up after work and we head to Jekyll Island for the weekend. My son has a gymnastics competition there tomorrow evening. Happy Riding everyone! |
driven the past two days :(
I Have driven the past two days ...I thought yesterday was going to be rainy all day... it wasn't. :(
it has been very windy the past week. It has been way above average in the wind department. 10-30mph. So strong ! I could fell it pushing my car around and it swirled around as a I went for a run last night. I am kind of glad I did not ride because this whole week has been windy and my legs have been tired. I am supposed to be running a 4 mile run this weekend with my sister at 8am on Saturday. It is supposed to be 42F and 20mph winds. :twitchy: I was hoping for spring weather when I signed up now I am trying to figure out how or what kind of layers I will need. My body feels a little more rested after being able to sleep in and get a little more rest. I think it was a good call to rest up a little this week my rides have all been slower than average. the past two days of driving have confirmed for me that biking is much better for me. I am on time and I don't have to fight the traffic like I have the past two days. it has been brutal. |
Beautiful morning for riding in NC today, with temps in the low to mid-40s and calmer winds for a change. Plus, the pollen finally seems to be tailing off. I drove yesterday since we had a lot of rain, so my legs were well rested this morning. My main commuter bike, the Bob Jackson, is totally filthy from other rain rides lately and is due for a good washing. It probably won't happen this weekend, however, because it is supposed to be very cold and windy here.
Have a nice time at Jekyll, mgw4cj. We lived in Savannah before moving to Raleigh and I've spent a lot of time camping, cycling, hiking and canoeing in Coastal Georgia. Pick up some Avon Skin So Soft lotion if you haven't already. It's the most effective repellent for the no-see-ums in the coastal areas. |
5 of the last 6 days have had wind gusts around 40mph. However, the commute this morning (albeit cool) was nice because the winds haven't kicked in yet. We'll have at least 35mph gusts this afternoon. :(

Great commute! Laced up some alloy rims on my 3 speed last night, and only have a 1 way commute today due to an oyster roast fund raiser my wife's work is hosting a few blocks away this evening. Windy, mostly a tail wind, comfortable temps, light traffic. What could be better?
|
Nice ride this morning. Mild temperature, gentle tailwind (the kind you don't notice at all). The peepers in the swam were loud again, after having been silent the last few days. Bright stars, so I kept looking up, perplexed, and I realized I need to learn more constellations. I had no idea what I was looking at. Pretty, though.

50F, blinding sun. Sadly going to miss the 80F ride home due to retrieving car that was worked on over night (same as I missed the 50F ride in yesterday but caught the 80F ride home)
|
I did a multi-modal car share bus commute today. I messed up my bus timings and had to walk a few blocks. That was no fun, it made me really miss riding. Biking is so much easier and more fun, and now that I super slow walking compared to the old me it is really hard to not want to go quicker on a bike.
Have a great weekend everyone. I've got a double date with my wife, of course, and some friends. We are going to play and dinner. It is exciting, since hospitalization and infant care we have had only a handful of actual dates in the last couple of years. Sunday plans were cancelled so I might try to coax my wife and other friends for a sow ride at some park. |
Been crazy windy this whole week.
Just rode from our office to a client's location 8 miles away. Took me a full hour. 35 degrees and a 30+ mph steady headwind took the fun out of everything. I made Tim Conway look fast. |
Shed the studded snow tires last week and am loving the faster commute. Picked up almost 4 MPH on average.

It was a very nice commute this morning, with the temp at 40f degrees. I was about two miles away when a very light rain started. If it is going to rain this afternoon I hope it is like this mornings rain.

I know what you mean about driving. With morning traffic, there is not a good way to drive from my house to the office. I usually end up taking my bike route, but skipping the neighborhoods that I ride through. It just feels weird.

Good ride this morning. Cool at 48F and overcast. |
FAST, I am not sure if I was actually faster than usual but I felt fast and I guess that is what really matters.
I ran a 4 mile race this weekend with my sister. We decided to stay through the awards ceremony since it looked liked she had placed 3rd woman overall. I was ready to go but they quickly got to my age group and come to find out I was 1st place for my age group and 4th guy to finish and 5 out of 94 runners. I felt pretty good on the run considering I have mostly been biking to and from work and not running that much. :) Biking the cross training for running! |
Commuted Thursday morning. Dark, just beginning to lighten up in the east when I got to work. This morning, lightening up from the beginning. Sunrise seems to be moving fast.
|
Great effort, Matthew! You're making us commuters proud. I used to be a runner mostly and cycled on my off days for cross-training, but injuries took a toll and I don't run anymore.
Our Goldilocks weather continues in NC, with mild temperatures and no rain. For the first time in ages, I didn't do any riding over the weekend as my wife had a big honey-do list for me, so my legs were fresh this morning. I plan to ride the long route home this afternoon if the nice weather holds, which would give me about 45 miles on the day. |
thanks tarwheel ! I was a bit surprised how it turned out. I think I underestimated my goal going in.. I did not think I would feel as good as I did.
Glad I could represent the commuters. |
Back after almost a week off - back to rain and headwinds. At least it's warmer, low 50's. The wind is supposed to reverse direction, so headwind going home. And the worst thing, even worse than headwind is pledge week at my local public radio station (listen to on the way in each morning). Even worse than that I usually switch to Chicago public radio during our pledge drive but theirs is this same week. Commuting gods are conspiring against me

I miss running but I have been living vicariously through my sister who has been competing and also does well for herself. Now I can add you to the list. |
