I noticed that change on its way.

I like that since I used to avoid that route for that exact purpose.

This morning the commute was very nice even with a light rain as I saw a rainbow! The temp was a little cool but it beat the winds from yesterday afternoon that were gusting up to 35mph per the weatherman.

Ah summer.. wind from the south in the morning and the northwest in the afternoon. Aka against the wind in both directions. Might have to start visiting the shower here before work. Gave blood yesterday and talk about a challenge! Combined with the heat last night was a difficult one!

Beat the rain by about three minutes. And, that does make for a nice commute. :)

Yes, I have one with me but it was a long ride in yesterday, I was feeling a bit tired and felt that I didn't really have the time to stop. Of course, I've regretted it ever since, as with all the times I either didn't stop or didn't have a camera of any sort with me.

I left at 6:30am for this mornings commute and according to The Weather Network, at 6am it was 5C/41F and at 7am, it warmed up to 8C/45F and I could certainly feel the warmth of the sun when I got out from behind the shade of buildings or trees.

It was a nice ride in but I took it slowly as I did 80km yesterday between the commutes and a community ride with our local cycling advocacy group and my legs were feeling physically exhausted last night. They're still somewhat achy but I'll see how I feel as I prepare for the ride home today and that will determine whether I take the 9km or the 22km route.

Yesterday's morning commute was uneventful. Afternoon had a few things happen.

First a guy in a pickup passed me (full lane change) while gunning his engine really loud. I just shook my head after he passed, which I guess he saw because I think he stuck his hand out and flipped the bird. Next another person made a split-lane pass well above the speed limit.

Finally, I came up to the spot where I normally stop for a short break, and saw a dog standing in the road ahead, barking at the property owner across the street. I watched for a minute, and the dog went back up its driveway (assuming that's where it lived). The guy was walking back to his house and said "better not go that way" to me. I don't really have any other viable option, though. So I waited for a car to pass in my direction, then sprinted out behind the car. As I approached the driveway, the dog started charging me, and I had to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid making contact with the dog. The dog gave up quickly and did not give chase.

My cycling club has a "dog attack" form that members can fill out, and even include video, and the club's lawyers will send a letter to the address putting the property owners on notice, and keeping track of all the incidents that have happened. That will help a case later on if something actually does happen that results in a rider's injury. So I filled that one out and sent it in along with a video clip.

I've enjoyed the last few mornings of 60 and just under temps. And even the rides home have been in mid to low 80s - not bad at all. This weekend and next week look to be back to hot hot again though.

A good 15+ this morning. I think I'll have my highest week's mileage this week, assuming I ride home this afternoon.

Pretty cold, for June!

Not me, but when it's 68 who cares! Walked out to the bike this morning to another flat rear tire. I did NOT feel like changing it so rode the 29'er, my "winter" bike. It's actually quite nice in warm weather - what a nice surprise!

Another beautiful day but our Goldilocks weather is about to end, with high heat and humidity expected over the weekend. We could set a new record high on Sunday. Hopefully it will be short-lived.

Second commute on my Sequoia, and I was able to get it more dialed in. I removed the platform pedals with toe-clips and replaced them with SPDs, which was an immediate improvement. I also removed the rear rack and installed a Carradice Pendle seatbag with Bagman rack. It looks much cleaner and the weight is centered better. Ordered some new brake hoods from my bike shop, as the 30-year-old hoods that were on the levers did not survive the installation process very well. Finally, I installed a computer, being the data junkie that I am. My average speed and mileage were way off on the commute to work, so I found a manual on-line and reset the computer.

A snapper! He fared better than the bullfrog I saw this morning, laying on its back and dead to the world.

High of 89F today, with 98F expected by Wednesday. I may have to start wearing a wet keffiyeh under the helmet.

On Monday, I spotted a, uh, spotted turtle at the side of the road and upside down but it must have been there for a bit because it wasn't moving. It was a nice looking one and had there been movement, I would have turned it over and pushed it into the wet ditch. A snapper can make its own damn way across the road, I'm not helping it. :lol:

Yesterday I had my bottom bracket adjusted and regreased. So my commute was awesome, thank you very much.

Reasonably cool morning, with temps in the mid-50's. Light wind and bright sunshine. I can get used to this.

Nasty headwind this morning! It was like riding in a wind tunnel. Not that I've ever ridden in a wind tunnel, but wow, what a wind, and I was riding straight into it. Ugh.

Warm mornings and hot afternoons look to be the deal this week.

All the local schools are done as of last Friday, so traffic was lighter this morning. It was nice getting passed less often, not seeing any school buses, and not having to wait long to turn on one normally busy highway.

Nice ride this morning with low humidity and a tailwind. It was very hot here over the weekend, with temps in the mid-90s and high humidity, but a cold front pushed through during the night. However, it's supposed to get hot and humid again here by midweek, so I'll enjoy the weather while it lasts. Today is my seventh day in a row of riding, after missing 10 days while on vacation. My legs are starting to feel tired but I'm trying to "make hay" before the next round of rainy weather starts.

I was supposed to go for a bike ride on Sunday but Saturday night and all through Sunday morning, there were tremendous winds, I have no idea why, it was not like the tail end of a hurricane but I didn't want to fight that much with the wind so I skipped the ride.

This morning's ride started out nice with the rising sun and a cool 6C/43F with little wind but after about 30 minutes, light clouds came up and hid the sun. Oh well, I got a nice ride in.

Perfect.. even for a Monday. Found a pull up bar a block from work so started my exercises this morning. Used to have one in my old office but had to move. By Friday I'll probably be dead tired!

Got up this morning and the ground was a little wet in spots, indicating it had rained during the night. Went out for a run and noticed some dark clouds approaching. About 1/2 mile into the run it started to sprinkle. I debated on turning around, but decided to keep going. It eventually became a steady shower.

Back at home I cleaned up and put on some workout clothes for my ride to work. Went sockless because I've found that socks absorb water like a sponge and will completely soak my clipless shoes. I packed my work clothes and an old towel, and grabbed my bike with fenders. By this point it was coming down pretty good, but it was a still an enjoyable ride. After I got to work I toweled off and changed into my work clothes.

I used to have a set of inexpensive panniers that were "water resistant." During heavy rains there would be spots where water would seep through. As a result I'd get to work and have random wet areas on my clothes. When that set of panniers wore out after 6 years of use I decided to splurge and get a set of Ortlieb back-roller city bags. I'm pretty cheap when it comes to spending money but now that I've had these for a few months they are worth every penny. I think I could hit them with a firehose and the contents would remain dry. That alone makes these bags nice to have, but when you add in the time savings with how fast they attach and detach from my rack (seriously less than 5 seconds) I can heartily recommend them to anyone in the market for a set of panniers.

Despite the daily summer-like heat it was 59F this morning. It's supposed to get to near 90 this afternoon - that's a 30 degree temp swing in less than a day. Bizarre but as long as it's an upward swing ok by me. First ride on new wheels today - was a little disappointed because I expected them to be magical rocket-propelled things that would make be 10 times faster. Unreasonable expectation?!
