Funny arsprod.

I made it a little more than halfway home yesterday before the rain started. I had seen it on the radar but thought I might get lucky. Instead I got a nice shower and my bike is a little bit cleaner than it was. I was pretty soaked.

Nice enough ride in this morning with an ATM stop on the way. Always nice to combine simple errands on the bike.

Consecutive commute number 317:

Warm, humid and windy. Had a big storm roll through last night so there were a lot of sticks and twigs down. One managed to get jammed in my spokes and rear derailleur. Thankfully it was small enough to not cause any problems other than making a bunch of noise and making me stop to remove it.

54F, gray. Got my Dad's bike in the mail last night, put it together and rode it in to work this morning. Nice! 99 44/100% stock (new pedals, seat, and one inner tube). But those knobby tires gotta go and/or I need to restrict it to offroad use.

Nice MTB @HardyWeinberg . Bridgestone anything are classics. It was a rainy ride in (well for at least the second half). It was nice catching up with a guy, Chris, that I haven't seen on the commute in a long time. What a change in the weather. Nice and cool. I think I like today's light rain and cool vs yesterday's hot like an oven. The creaky BB went away. So I guess I should ride in the rain all the time...

Very nice Bridgestone. It looks brand new!

I am kind of amazed by how new it acts. I mean, pretty thick coat of dust and cobwebs, but other than that...

Dust and cobwebs smooth out the texture of rust and old paint flakes and makes it more aero, that's probably why it behaves like it is new!

My first commute back after being in Michigan visiting my son and his wife for five days. The commute this morning was pleasant with sunny skies and the temp at 50f degrees.

A little muggy this morning but not bad. Took a detour through the Union cemetery. Also signed up for the 15 mile Ride2Blvdia for Saturday. It'll be the first organized ride for me.. funny it's almost the same route as I take everyday. Going to use my commuter and standard garb.. I'll probably be the only one!

mgw4jc 06-15-17 06:23 AM

A lovely 70F with 86% humidity with a high of 91 forecast. I left about an hour early and went to the gym on the way for a bit of weight lifting.

I passed a turtle on the MUP. He'll probably get the last laugh as he zooms by while I'm sitting at my desk though.

Beautiful 57 degree 14 mile ride in today.
Proper preparation is key, unlike what I did today. Last night I loaded my pannier up with the supplies I needed for today, this morning I added a few more things. I thought it was a little heavy to use only one side, so I mounted the 2nd bag just in case my balance was thrown too far off, I could shuffle some items. That's when I noticed one of the bags no longer has the clip on the bottom that slides around the rack, no biggie I will ride with it and see if it flops around. During the ride the bottom clip on the backup bag fell off so I had to swing back and get that. Tonight I need to see if I can find more clips, or find a way to secure the bottom, so I don't need to buy new bags

A few miles into the ride I realized that according the speed on the computer I was flying, then I remembered that I switched from 700*25 tires to 700*32 and never adjusted the wheel size on the computer. No big deal, my watch automatically detects workouts and tracks distance. I look at the watch and find out its not turned on. The battery died last night so I put it on the charger, never turned it back on when I took it off the charge this morning. No big deal, I had Strava running on my phone in the bag. So I get to work and check my mileage and time. I had started the Strava app, but never hit the record ride button.

So I had a great ride in, but no data to back it up. Next time I will check all of my gear before I leave the house. Also when I went back to the computer it looks like I had the wheel size set up completely wrong the last time, but I think I have it right now.

What a mess - big storms last night. I've been able to avoid storms this week but I think my luck will run out today for the ride home

PatrickGSR94 06-15-17 09:04 AM

Definitely an interesting e-bike ride going home yesterday. At one point on a rural road I saw in the distance up ahead (in front of 2 cars that had just passed me), 2 small animals run across the road, the 2nd one appeared to be a rabbit. When I got closer I saw that the first animal was a cat. Sooo... a smaller rabbit chased a larger cat across the road?

Then when I was just around the corner from my house, 2 small dogs came running out after me, barking up a storm. I stopped at the corner, turned right around and chased the dogs back to their house! That was kinda funny in retrospect, although at the time I was feeling fed up with dogs chasing me and barking. A couple of girls were in the garage playing with the dogs I think, so I said "keep the dogs in the house please". I then turned back around and went to my house. I think I heard one of the girls saying "you're scaring them" or something like that. Oh well, keep your damn dogs contained before they run out in front of a car trying to pass me, and get killed.

I've been feeling depressed which leads to laziness which leads to depression, so I forced myself to ride into work today. It hasn't broken the feelings, but it's a good thing I did it anyway. I didn't ride slowly or hard, just kind of moderately. The weather is perfect today.

52F, drizzle. Stuck with the tolerable-weather bike (fenders but no headlight). Here it is in the dentists's stairwell. No new cavities!

is that poplar or willow fuzz?

Another nice commute in today with the temp at 60f degrees and overcast skies.

Yay for Friday and it is fathers' day this Sunday so, to all you dad's Happy Father's day!

mgw4jc 06-16-17 06:19 AM

Felt pretty warm today. I took it a bit slower to not get so sweaty. I rode easy for the last couple of miles to try and cool down. Not sure if it helped, but the breeze felt nice.

Double yay for Friday! I had a short week due to traveling on Monday, but still glad the weekend is here again.

jrickards 06-16-17 06:39 AM

Mild, 15C/59F, but mist that felt like I was riding through a cloud so I was a bit wet when I arrived at work.

Forecast for thundershowers today but it is forecast for about noon so I should be fine to ride home at the end of the day without encountering it, although, who knows.

I had planned that yesterday, I would ride my road bike on a 42km/26mi ride into work and then leave work at noon so I could do it again to go home and be showered and ready to pickup my wife from work at 2 so that she could go to her doctor's appointment but the forecast was for thundershowers from about noon to 3pm, during my ride home so I decided just to drive in. In the end, at about 10am, there was a bit of rain, no thundershowers and sunny for the rest of the day. Therefore, I'm not confident in weather forecasts, LOL.

Today they re-opened a 1/2 mile stretch of the MUP that had been closed for a few months for repair, so I got to ride on the brand new pavement. In addition to new pavement without potholes and cracks, the trail was much straighter (previously it had some pretty sharp curves woven through trees), there was a brand new bridge made out of concrete (old one was very worn wood) and they raised the trail about a foot and put in culverts. This area would often be underwater for a long time after any significant rain, and during the winter was by far the iciest stretch of the MUP.

Glad to have the trail open again. When the MUP was closed, the detour route was about 1/2 mile longer (which I didn't mind so much) and took me down a major traffic artery that was busy and fast (which I did mind so much.)

HardyWeinberg 06-16-17 11:07 AM

54F, cloudy. No rain at least. Rode home yesterday in the mist leaving my coat in the backpack, but it turned to legit rain the last 2 miles so I pulled over and put the coat on for the home stretch.

Clouds today, chance of rain, but the percentages according to weather.gov were front-loaded and it wasn't raining early when the percentage was high so I left the coat at home.

Jadesfire 06-19-17 05:33 AM

71 and low humidity this morning. I've had a few days off the bike, so my legs were fresh this morning. Beautiful ride in, and I was feeling very comfortable on the bike.
I am going to try to ride every day this week, but that might not be possible. Tropical system in the Gulf= really unpleasant conditions later on this week.

PanoramicPixel 06-19-17 06:21 AM

Hot with heavy rain storm today. But thankfully it lightened up before the ride home. First rain for my new bike.
