About as nice as it gets, today! :thumb: Pleasant temperature, clear sky with a few clouds, the moon a very thin waning crescent pretty high in the sky. I had to yell at a deer standing in the middle of the road; she didn't seem to get what the deal was, but she moved.

This being the solstice, it was already pretty light when I left the house, and I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise on the train.

Tundra_Man 06-21-17 08:28 AM

Rain this morning. Technically had a strong tailwind, but it was swirling around so much that my speed was constantly varying. On a whim I tried a slightly different route to the client's office.

Steely Dan 06-21-17 09:20 AM

it was a spectacular morning for a ride here in chicago!

63 degrees when i left, no wind, lowish-humidity, cloudless crystal clear skies (my route is 90% tree-canopied side streets, so i don't have to deal with much direct sun).

and the cherry on top of that bike commuting sundae? CPS is finally freaking done for the summer as of this morning (my morning route takes me past 4 different schools).

groovestew 06-21-17 09:47 AM

cool (10C/50F) and windy.

HardyWeinberg 06-21-17 10:01 AM

52F, partly cloudy.

I fired up mytracks 'cause I have a long day of point to point to point stuff and it let me down on the first leg, stopped recording a mile and a half short of the destination. Dang.

noglider 06-21-17 10:05 AM

I'm going to try an eye mask, because the sunrise wakes me up, and my alarm is set for 7am. I've been awake since about 5:15. Grr.

I took Friday and Monday and Tuesday (yesterday) off from work, so this is my first work day since Thursday. The ride in was really nice. It's warm and humid, but hey, it could be worse. Lifting weights seems to help me. I spent 10 or 15 minutes at it before leaving, which is normal for me. Somehow, it really gets me going. I wasn't aiming to make my fastest time, and I think I did or at least close to it. 56 minutes moving time, 59 minutes overall. I rode my Raleigh which is not my fastest bike. My workouts with weights and with intervals on the bike are really paying off.

I did have a slight tail wind, and I'm sure that helped, too, but I'm taking most of the credit for my good results.

Nice ride. I came to the brilliant realization yesterday that I could drive into work on tuesdays, my early day, ride home during rush hour, ride back to work wed, then drive home late night wed with the bike. Not sure why it took me so long lol. I do need to get a proper bike rack though....would rather not keep taking wheels off and cramming bike in the trunk.

Darn. That is some crazy weather, crazy wolf. I can't fathom that hot. I don't like it when it gets above 22°C or 70°F.

The weather here has been in the high 60°F, near 20°C. I have been using my newly acquired 1989 Specialized Hardrock. I need to make some adjustments and give the rear derailleur a good cleaning. The gear slipped and I lost grip on my pedal (which I am waiting for my replacement pedals) and I got grease on my pants, of course I wore my khakis today. I felt like such a newbie.

AstroEng 06-21-17 06:56 PM

I know I'm fat, but sheesh!

The bracket on my saddle that connects to my seatpost broke on one side 2 miles from home (heading home).

Sweet...:troll:

I guess I should lay off the pie... Nah.

noglider 06-21-17 09:30 PM

I rode really hard coming home in the evening. Congestion along the bike path and MUP was heavy, and I had to slow down a lot, but it's OK. Everyone was enjoying the scenery in their own way.

essiemyra 06-22-17 05:06 AM

A very pleasant commute in this am with the temp at 60f degrees and blue skies. What a nice way to start my day!

jrickards 06-22-17 05:21 AM

Last night, I planned a longer ride in, 22km/13mi, but when I got up, it was cooler than I expected, 11C/52F, and although that wouldn't have deterred me, the heavy, heavy clouds overhead and a feeling that it was going to storm in the near future, that deterred me so I took my shorter, 8km/5mi, route and arrived fine.

I may be riding home in rain though but one other thing I was going to do was to ride my road bike on which I have no storage for a raincoat so, because of the forecast, I decided to take my touring bike, 2012 Kona Sutra, with panniers in which I always have my raincoat.

Have a great day!

jrickards 06-22-17 05:25 AM

Oh, I forgot to add something.

To me, it feels like this spring and summer so far, have been unseasonably cool and wet. Most days, I'm heading out on the bike in low to middle teens of Celcius (10C=50F, 15C=59F, 20C=68F) and although my home is 4hrs drive north of Toronto, I would have expected morning temperatures in the high teens or low to mid 20s.

Are others experiencing unseasonable weather so far? (This is not intended to be a "climate change" discussion, just pure observation.)

noglider 06-22-17 05:56 AM

jrickards, our spring was cooler and wetter than normal, and I refuse to complain. I consider it to be merciful. I know eventually, we have those dog days of summer, and we will pray for days like these. And the extra water in this season is like money in the bank.

Things are crazy hot in the southeast US now.

mgw4jc 06-22-17 07:14 AM

North Carolina has been plenty warm, but reasonably so due to afternoon/evening showers keeping things in check. Plenty humid too. I know some runners who look at the temp plus dew point (TDP) and how it affects them. 140+ is where it gets pretty rough. We were about that this morning.

72 already when I hit the road. Tired this week between working on reroofing our back porch, giving blood and riding the 23.5 miles on Saturday. Hopefully have the roof back on Saturday so I can relax one day!

That's funny but I have the opposite problem. My route goes through one of the city's hipster/artsy area that gets packed when the weather's warm. For about 4 miles of the MUP I'm dodging clueless walkers with dogs, parents that don't watch their kids, and runners with ear buds. But in the morning it's too early for those folks so brilliantly clear - and today was one of those brilliantly perfect morning (other than a headwind).

57F and nothing but blinding sun. Great day for me, not so good for this poor mole I found on the trail after someone else seems to have biked over him.

NewATBikeComute 06-22-17 09:46 AM

Another perfect morning along the Charles.

It was like that here for the spring. We even had rain in June, unusual. Then this week, it... turned

Today I changed that. Drove down to a park on the riverside MUP and commuted the 6 and a half miles from there. I used a hard tail Haro mountain bike, only commuter mod is a front handlebar bag; still on knobbies. I'd like to have something more upright and with less rolling resistance (and fenders!) but for now this will be ok. If I do it much more I'll either mod the bike or get something different.

That's pretty much how I got started last year. Riding a 90's era Trek 800 sport. Swapping out offroad tires for smoother ones was a big difference. Becoming obsessed with anything new is my weakness, so I (try) to focus on enjoying the ride.

Congratulations. Welcome back!

I really miss commuting. I haven't rode (or worked) in two weeks due to surgery. It will be another week before I can even think about getting on a bike and the weather is so nice right now. Sunny, 63 degrees, no winds.

I am so depressed.

great commutes lately. This morning i left the house late and arrived early. Afternoon commutes have seemed busy, groups of 8-10 at some points.

Darth Lefty 06-22-17 04:53 PM

Cooling over the weekend and next week highs are in the low 90s. Back to it, I hope.
