Looking for a thermos type bottle to enjoy hot coffee once I get to work. Something that fits in water bottle cage. Anyone, anyone...

I have a thermos which keeps my coffee hot. It's this one: Thermos Stainless Steel King Hydration Bottle with Flip Lid 710ml - Blue | OZKitchenware
It *might* fit in a waterbottle cage, but I don't have a cage. I carry mine on a carabiner attached to one of my backpack straps (loop of wire around the bottle). Easy to grab a sip at a light.

I've got the older ones that fit pretty snugly in the cage. These should work as well.

I've used a Kleen Kanteen cup and King Iris cage since 2010.

The bottle should be really leakproof and have an insulated cap. Leakproof means that you can turn it upside down and shake with no spill. Thermos-Nissan has good choices such as the one mentioned or Backpacker. If the cap is not insulated, most heat goes out through there. Contigo and Kleen Kanteen are second rate but people are free to suggest what they want. Be prepared that a 16oz thermos bottle may have a diameter slightly above the standard bike bottle so it is good to combine the thermos with a tolerant cage such as Profile Design Kage.

I use a Hydroflask 20oz thermos to carry coffee with me on the bike. It fits in my plastic Profile Designs bottle cage just fine. For reference, these are the products: Hydroflask 20oz and Profile Design Stryke Cage

It's been a good combo for me for the last two years. The only time I've had an issue with it is when I wasn't paying attention and hit a massive pothole that I normally ride around. It ejected the Hydroflask, but that only dented it. It's still insulated and leak proof a year since the event.

The Stanley thermal push button mug will fit a standard cage and keep liquids hot for hours. One hand operation with a perfect seal make this a great vessel to bring on board.

When you ask this kind of question you run a popularity contest with psychological undertones that can be summed up with "the best is the one I have". The owner usually did indeed some cross-comparisons but usually limited, standing in front of a shelf or reading opinions such as here, and over limited time of experience with product use has not considered all relevant questions. Yes, indeed one hand operation is important. I was looking at these over the weekend. Do you have the standard lid on it with the flip up closure? Or did you get the fancier screw on lid?

It flip up lid didn't look leak proof to me under biking conditions. In a car, sure, but not on a bike. I'd LOVE to be wrong about this and will go buy one this afternoon.

Also how does the powder coated finish hold up? Does it scratch easily? (I like nice things.)

I have the standard flip top lid. It's perfectly leak proof under all conditions I've experienced. The paint holds up pretty well in my opinion. Like I said I hit a pothole and ejected mine, so that dented it and removed some paint, but I've had it for two years now. Lots of stickers pull the eyes away from any scratches that may develop.

I was going to comment the same thing. I have three of these along with their big vacuum bottles and a camp mug.

These work great, and they really are leak proof. I've had this fall on the floor of my car and sit there for 10 minutes because I couldn't reach it, and not a drop will spill.

I have a zojirushi 20 oz bottle that's doesn't fit well in my cage - I have a cheap metal on that I bend to fit it tightly. My commute is short and over all paved roads so no problems with it coming out. This is by and far the bottle that keeps coffee longest. There's an air chamber under the flip up lid that helps insulate I assume, I've never spilled a drop of anything out of it regardless of how it dell or rolled out of my grasp or bottle cage.

I use a Stanley cup as pictured above this fits the bottle cage no problem and works awesome as well - definitely keeps coffee or tea piping for at least 4 hours.

Finally, I have a contigo cup which is nice but not the easiest to clean all the gubk out of its leakproof mechanism. Doesn't keep coffee as hot for as long as the other two but it was a gift. Fits in my bottle cage no problem.

I always just look for travel mugs to fit the cage. Rules out the kind with handles, I am OK with that.

I can confirm Target has them. I saw them there yesterday.

You are also rolling the dice on Amazon that you are getting a real Contigo brand bottle and not a knock off made with cheap materials that will rust in a few weeks and leak god only knows what into your coffee.

Amazon is filled with knock off counterfeit products. Read the reviews on the Hydroflask bottles. Tons of reports of getting fakes

Target had them last Christmas time too.

Same here. Been using the same Contigo for at least 5 years. Dropped it lots. It is all dented and scratched and the plastic is chipped - but it still works great. Love it.

I had only consumed one or two cups of coffee in my entire life. Tried some instant coffee recently and I can see why people like it. For me, if I drink just the right amount I feel a buzz not unlike when I drink alcohol. Ha, so now I can be buzzed all day...and then get buzzed at night. I've entered a crazy new realm!

Buuuut, I'm so sensitive to caffeine, since I don't use it at all...if I have slightly too much...I'm wired and crazed. Oh man. It's like daytime drinking (of alcohol). NOW I see why all you nuts love coffee...
