Fender extension hack
Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to recall seeing a post (sticky?) about a hack for adding an extension to a fender. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

There are plenty of variations on the theme of mud flaps.
Mouse mats, folding cutting boards, PET bottles....
Last two I’ve used have been cut from discarded rubber boots.
A more fashion-sensitive approach is to buy another fender to use as extension material.

or throw down some bucks for a new front fender like those SKS longboards. one never regrets buying the right thing

you did a really nice job with that, I remember it & was thinking of trying it myself later this winter. can you tell us (again) or show us how it is attached at the top? it cant be tape, right? cuz tape will give out in the cold I think. plus is it permanent?

Those black clips are just plain old metal clips that are holding the edges of the pad to the fenders. I drilled two holes onto the bottom of the fender to match the two on the mouse pad, and then just zip tie. No adhesives.

BTW, I've ridden with those since February 2017, and so far I've had no issues with them. It helps with the spray tremendously, and hopefully this doesn't happen again:

I do agree that you should buy fenders with as much coverage as possible first, but I've gotten quite a few years out of an extension made from a cut-up plastic milk jug. It's just about due for replacement.

OMG, that is my bike. I wanted an urban/winter beater. Bought the frame for $30 because it was 700c, steel, lugged, two tone (lugs are grey on mine).
Besides, $30 was cheaper than $3000 for an equivelant gravel bike, and I got to put to use all the spare parts lying around my garage!
I do want to put drop bars on it though...

Yep, I have a large binder clip attached to a table beside my bed, which holds the end of a USB extension cable, and then my phone cable plugs into that. Never have to fishing around on the floor for the cable.
Nice job with the mouse pad attachment above. I've got to come up with something like that for my e-bike with (what were supposed to be but aren't really) SKS Longboard fenders.
