mojojojo - glad it wasn't worse and that you're back at it.

After last week's cool temps, we are back to the normal August humidity. It wasn't too horrible though, or maybe I'm just used to it by now.

The local schools started today. On the way out of my neighborhood I got behind a bus that had two more stops. That was the worst of it though. Traffic for me was mostly normal after that. A few coworkers were late due to traffic though.

Tundra_Man 08-27-18 07:08 AM

Warm and humid this morning.

Saw a guy riding his bike down the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. That wasn't all that unusual to see. What was weird was he came to an intersection where the light was green, then stopped and waited. Once the light turned red he crossed and continued down the sidewalk.

That was a new one.

Update: Before I left the house this morning the forecast was for sunny skies and no chance of rain. I took the road bike and didn't bring any wet weather gear. Now that I've arrived at work they're saying storms and rain this afternoon. Rats.

Broke out in a sweat when I got to work. :o

It wasn't the work. It was just that it was fairly cool but humid, so when I stopped, the cessation of air flow meant all the sweat I'd been pumping out suddenly stopped evaporating. Other than that, it was a great ride.

Woah, glad you're ok and back on the bike! False Fall weather is over and back to the 90's. It was so humid this morning my glasses fogged up. I've been whining about ebikes all summer but a guy on a Radwagon (https://www.radpowerbikes.com/produc...=5032655749151) pulled up next to me today complete with a windshield. I want one for winter!

58F, cloudy, still. Clammy. Fall-like (except for the 'still' part, I guess)

A very nice uneventful commute to work today with a full moon and new black top, smooth riding!

mgw4jc 08-28-18 06:38 AM

A good ride this morning. I can tell there is a bit more traffic now that school is in session, but it didn't really affect my commute.

I almost got left hooked at the end of my commute. One parking entrance before mine, an orange jeep coming at me either didn't see me or didn't think I was going that fast and starts to turn left just in front of me. I say out loud, "Woaaaahhhh!" and grab the brakes. He then realizes his mistake and straightens back to his lane and waves "Sorry". It's a slight downhill there after a short, steeper downhill, so I'm usually cruising 20+ mph on that stretch. It wouldn't have been pretty if he had continued his turn.

The streets were wet on the way to work yesterday morning, so I wiped down the chain and re-lube it once I got home. While I was at it, I thought I better check the disc brakes since they seemed to start making a bit of noise. Yep, the pads were WAY shot! So, no bike commuting today and instead I'll run to the LBS and get some new pads.

pdlamb 08-28-18 07:40 AM

I had to deal with a slow leak / flat tire before this morning's commute. Grr. I know my last two flats were on one stretch of high-speed road with nice, wide shoulders loaded with gravel and other stuff, but no traffic lights. Guess which road I took home last night? Grr, again. Sure hope the bit of glass I pulled out of the tire was the right one...

Today I needed an easy ride, so I didn't notice the increasing heat and humidity. Too much. At least it was clear, sunny, and calm -- wind and traffic.

Tundra_Man 08-28-18 08:36 AM

Caught a break this morning. We had a huge storm roll through early. It had stopped raining about the time I left for work. Had wet roads but no falling precipitation. Then a couple minutes after I arrived at the office the skies unleashed again.

Going Clipless

Commuted in on my clipless pedals for the 1st time in 17 years (I swore them off after an unfortunate crash involving alcohol)

Think I will keep doing it

Pretty good headwind this morning but yesterday's ride home in the 90's had a ripping 20 mph tailwind that I think I get to have again today!

HardyWeinberg 08-28-18 11:13 AM

58F, hazy

two days of hot 90F+ and humid 63% + humidity commutes. Currently sitting at 90F feels like 95F. It might cool some before the ride home. This heat and humidity sure wears you out. The AC is broken in our house too. Wife said it was 82F in the house when she left at 2pm. We are going swimming tonight I hope the water feels as refreshing as we need it to be.

on another note I really like my Salsa for commuting. the 650b x 47 mm tires are so nice on the cities terrible pavement and even provide some comfort when diving off the road because of idiot drivers, like I did last night.

Was he "wrong-way" on the sidewalk? I could see the reason for it in that case.

Yes he was.

I'm not seeing a reason to sit at a corner through a green light when there was no traffic coming his way, waiting for the light to turn red and then riding out in front of the traffic now coming through the intersection.

Hot and getting hotter tomorrow. Ugh.

essiemyra 08-29-18 05:00 AM

A pleasant uneventful commute this am with the temp at 80 f degrees and clear skies.

esmith2039 08-29-18 06:30 AM

Season change again.. mother nature don't know she wants to push, pull or knock me off the bike. Nice morning though, low 60's.

mgw4jc 08-29-18 07:11 AM

I left about 5 minutes later than I like and and felt like traffic was heavier at that time. I had to wait a good 2 or 3 minutes at one intersection. First for the two left turning cars in front of me and then me also turning left.

Even though I was a bit behind schedule, I had to stop to get a picture of this guy. I'm not too sure if he was alive or not though as he didn't move the whole time I got my phone out, took his picture, and put it back in my trunk.

Strange sensation walking out of the house this morning; it was cooler outside than in, but the humidity outside was stifling. Too many streets milled but not yet repaved for my comfort in town (must be an election year), but I managed to wander through some neighborhoods and avoid them.

davei1980 08-29-18 08:19 AM

Almost ran in to two runners on a really tight, blind turn that is also a steep descent. They were coming my way and couldn't decide to go left or right. I just stopped and they split me.

There are plenty of dead squirrels who got that way because they couldn't make up their mind.

It's the traffic going the same way he is (when he's on the wrong side on the sidewalk), catching up and turning left (across his path) into the street that he's crossing. Literally nobody turning left is looking across the street for bike traffic on the sidewalk going in the same direction, and it's not that easy on the bike either because they're coming from behind you. Any of them, even in the through lanes, might suddenly decide to swerve to a left turn. I would at least wait for the protected left to get red.
