Another pleasant uneventful commute in this am with the temp at 67 degrees. Warm enough not to need a jacket.

It was raining early this morning but lightened up to a drizzle before I left for work. That stopped and I was mostly dry until about 3.5 miles to go. Then a light rain got me pretty soaked. It stopped again with less than a mile to go, but not with enough time or mileage to air dry. I've hung by shirts, shorts and socks on my bike hoping they'll dry off some before the ride home. But it probably won't matter as more rain is forecast then too.

Weird bike commuting day most notably the guy styling pants that fall down on purpose and after he passed me he stood up to pedal and down they went. Not what I wanted to see first thing in the a.m. When I got to downtown an electric utility truck was parked right on the trail. Not 3 feet away was a parking lot but no, they had to park on the trail. I tell ya, we don't get no respect...

It's not quite so warm, but still warm enough that I'm pretty soaked when I get on the train. I know I shouldn't ride quite so fast, but I can't help myself.

Yesterday I smelled a skunk and saw a fox. I'm pretty sure that was one skunked fox. Didn't look happy to see me.

Third consecutive day of commuting in the rain. 40F with a stiff headwind. No speed records were set.

Woke up to see a flood warning on my phone. I've lost track of how many of those I've received this year. Sure enough, the river was pretty high. There was one low area on the MUP that was underwater due to the river coming over the banks. Thankfully the water wasn't moving and it was only about an inch deep so I didn't have to backtrack to go around it.

Going into Monday we were only about three inches of rain away from it being the wettest year on record. I wouldn't be surprised if we've passed that mark by the end of today.

I've noticed that for over a month, I'm not interested in pushing hard. I just roll along at a level of almost no exertion. But this morning, I felt different, and I don't know why. I went fast and hard, and I enjoyed that, too.

Pulled the rain bike out this morning for its first ride in 2-3 weeks, expecting rain later today. Slightly different feel, but I enjoyed the ride in.

I'm ready to start complaining about the late fall back to standard time, it's dark getting started in the morning and the sun's been setting before I get home in the afternoon. One of the two wouldn't be so bad.

@mgw4jc, hope you're dried out after Florence -- looks like the Carolinas have to get through Michael before the spin cycle is done.

Pretty wet today independent of any hurricane induced moisture. I'm looking to probably drive tomorrow because of the heavier winds and rain that Michael will bring. We are a one car family so if I drive we have kids' activities logistics to figure out.

We are under a flash flood watch most of the day Thursday, but that shouldn't affect any of my route.

In recent years in NYC, the smell of weed on the streets is almost constant. It's everywhere. Enforcement of the laws has all but stopped.

I decided not to bike in the Michael storm. Drove through some pretty heavy rains and gusting winds. Wind is supposed be worse throughout the day. The rain may pass through and be gone by 5pm though. Local schools are closed which made for a nice low traffic drive.

Is this Hurricane Michael? The weather radar shows a contiguous area of rain (or is it low pressure) across the whole eastern seaboard.

On my way home last night the river was up over its banks closing off a few parts of the MUP and forcing me to take alternative routes. One involved carrying my bike up a steep hill and over the shoulder of a railroad trestle, as the alternative was to backtrack a couple of miles and ride some really busy streets.

This morning, the good news was it was the first day this week it wasn't raining. The bad news is it was sleeting. The headwind was really fierce and the temp was right at 32F. A little chilly, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe I'm getting my winter skin on early this season.

The flood waters had receded a bit so a couple spots that were impassable last night were ok this morning. There was one area where I rode through some shallow water because I really didn't want to backtrack and re-fight the headwind I had just made some progress against.

Real Fall temps this morning, 20 degree drop from yesterday morning - 51F. And winds are back... I'd rather have rain!

I can not imagine NYC is worse than BC. But it has increased over the many years. Come to think of it I don't think I have busted anyone for weed yet this school year.

I haven't been able to hop on the bike since the previous weekend when I wrapped the trailer hitch around the hub. I spent this past weekend cooking for our Canadian Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday and being in Canada lets me celebrate twice a year. I love my usual spread of traditional fare, this year I added a chocolate pecan pie! Needless to say, it was well received.

The remnants of Hurricane Michael are plowing through the Mid Atlantic today...

So my commute was nice and cozy in my car. I passed a biker though...he looked miserable.

Michael is just the bottom part of that system. It has caught and joined other rains. We had light rain yesterday that was fine for biking in. But the heavier stuff and stronger winds of Michael came today. It's just about gone now and I could probably have ridden home fine. Oh well.
Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and nice, so back on the bike.

Your use of the word "worse" makes you sound like not a fan of weed. I am one, actually. I'm not aghast at how common it is, but I am a bit surprised. Times do change.

When I started my commute this morning, my bike chain was quite squeaky and in bad need of some lube. I hadn't noticed it soon enough to turn and go home to remedy this. I knew a friend who lives along my route hosted an early morning run on Fridays. He is also a cyclist. As I got to his house I saw a couple of bikes out front. Some of the runners bike to his house, run, have coffee, then bike home. I stopped and went inside. I first asked, "Do you have any Grey Poupon?" They laughed and offered me coffee. I said I didn't have time but was in need of some bike lube. He said of course and took me out to the garage. It made a big difference and I could stop worrying about the squeaky chain.

Oh, and it was only 55F with a nice little tailwind. A great, less squeaky ride the rest of the way to work.

Another major temp drop to 37F. Even with the spreadsheet I keep for what to wear in what temps I can still get a little flummoxed by these first few cold days of the season.

That was brisk!

Started out in the middle 40s, I don't think we've had temps in the 50s since last spring so that was a shock. Like [MENTION=322871]arsprod[/MENTION], I take a few days to get used to what to wear and what it feels like when the temperature drops like that. Ride hard, get cold because of the wind chill; ride slow, get cold because I'm not generating any body heat.

Other than that it was a bright, clear day, and another great day for a ride.

We had a day of lots of rain yesterday. Now it's cooler and very sunny and very windy. I'm going to the country from work tonight, so there's no point in riding my bike and leaving it at work. I could have taken Citi Bike, but riding six miles on that tank isn't all that fun, and with a heavy headwind, it just seemed like a lot of unfun, so I took the subway. I hope my wife and I get out on the renovated tandem this weekend.

I didn't check the weather before leaving this morning, and realized it was cold about halfway here. Not winter freezing cold, but just under the threshold where I like to have something covering my hands (which is 51°). Sure enough, when I checked later it was 49-50°, time to dig out my selection of gloves I guess.

It's been kind of wet and sloppy the last couple of days, with the remnants of the hurricane passing through. I was surprised at the creek flooding the Greenway earlier, because it didn't seem to have rained that much. But the flooding had overflowed the banks and I had to turn back.

I am not against pot, I am a supporter of moderate consumption at the right time and place; neither school or driving are those places. I should have used the worse more common rather than worse.

I wish I got a picture of the sunset the other day, it was a gorgeous mix of purples, reds, and oranges.
