On my daily commute I encounter deer, elk, bears and the occasional triceratops. Oh, wait, those are pedestrians, Just as bad and even less predictable.

I guess it makes sense. Who among us has not seen a deer crossing the road and thought to themselves, "You know what, I'm gonna hit that deer with my car and keep the damn meat for myself! If I can just time this right ..."
The only problem is that it's not that easy to deliberately hit a deer with your car, those deer have some really fancy footwork, and are agile enough to jump over 10 foot tall fences.

In WI you may keep the deer/bear/turkey roadkill. If the driver who hits it doesn't want it, anyone can take it. But from experience, gutting a roadkill usually isn't pretty. They've simplified it down to a phone call rather than wait for LE to show up and issue a permit. https://archive.jsonline.com/sports/o...20838361.html/
I've seen quite a number of deer/bear get tagged pretty good, shake it off, and run away. Most probably die later from their wounds or disadvantage with predators.

Personally, I'm more terrified of Moose and Bears as colliding with either (or being attacked by them) is much more damaging then a deer. Sure, a deer might break bones, but a bear/moose will break skulls.

Yeah moose and bears must be big dangers. We don't have many deer in Manhattan. Gee, do we even have any? Probably not. But I've been hitting nearly hitting rats. It's not pleasant.

I almost hit an immature doe with my old car years ago...
I knew she was immature from the pierced tongue and iPod.
And her young buck and his pal were swearing under the hood of their broken down Camaro on the other side of the road.

madpogue, I had no idea. There were some coyote sightings along the Hudson River a couple of years ago, but I didn't know about the deer in Central Park. They had to cross a lot of heavily urban landscape to get there.
