I feel better in the AM. But I am usually up for an hour or two before I head out the door, which helps. at night, after generally sitting all day, my legs are tight.

and honestly, I almost never get fully in the sweet spot on my commute. when I do training rides, or when touring, I usually write off the first 30mins of riding. at about 30-40 mins, I am fully warmed up and ready to go after it. my commute only lasts about that long, with lots of stop and go.

I have a short 8-9mi commute so rapid warm up is a must if I want to be quick. I've always set out hard and perhaps my body has gotten used to it. I don't notice an AM/PM thing, but more temperature. When its at the ideal mid-80s to mid-90s warm up is quick so in the summer my AM commute is good, in the fall/spring the PM. I notice most of a differences in legs as the week goes on. They get more tired on Thurs/Friday.

My legs have this thing against going into work. Yet, for some reason they work much better on the way home.

Plus, my commute into work involves going up many more hills that they way back.

As for temp: I have not noticed a difference in cold weather. Except I tend to ride faster to heat up quicker.

Here's an idea... in fact I thought it was Koffee that originally mentioned it...

Start the day with a hot shower... then the "morning legs" are a bit looser to start with.

The alarm clock goes off and I wait.
After about five minutes, I know.
I know whether I will ride to work with a piano tied to my arse, or if I will have no chain.
Love the mornings with no chain.

Do any of you folks stretch**********

YMMV, but it makes a world of difference for me. And certainly more so in the AM. Typical routine is hot shower, hot breakfast (oatmeal etc..) then a solid 10-15 minutes of stretching before the ride. Legs feel good, back feels good. Less chance of injury. I also stretch when I get to the office, a short one before the ride home, and again once in the door. My wife is a PT, and pushed me on it. At first I was marginal , but after doing it for over a year - I will always try to stretch before a ride, and when I dont- I know it, and so does the watch. .

I'm usually faster going home than riding into work. Maybe that's because there's an 800 foot climb to work, and an 800 foot descent on the way back.

Late night commuting is the best. Mind you I had a very close call the only time I rode home after midnight...didn't see the white stripe until I was about 4 feet away and had to swerve. And I don't mean the white stripe painted on the road. This one was fur.

I don n't commute everyday. I avoid back to back days of commuting unless I am in super good shape and than I still watch it. If you have a commute of 6 miles (one way) or more I think you need to give your legs a chance to recover.

That cold might have something to do with it. Spinning is good. Helps to get things warmer in the knees.

Now you went and did it...my legs are threatening to go on strike after reading your post. I never had a labor dispute with them in 46 years...cept for that one time in a boxing ring, but that's another story, then you come along and start instigating. I hope you are happy now.

Hmm, sounds like some sort of problem to me, too... I tell you what, even though I'm a happily married man, how about posting a pic or two of said legs, and we'll see if we can see some kind of obvious problem that is only discernible to a trained male eye..

And, feed you a carrot and a sugar cube... Maybe... I've ridden horses that would almost have to be driven with a stick when leaving the barn to go out riding. Turn them around and head for home and they would nearly have to be ridden with a parachute and g-suit!

Koffee...Koffee...Koffee....

I have to agree to the above... A picture will tell us more! LOL

As far as the Wind (or other seasonal changes), I look at them as challenges!
Seems like no 2 "Wind" days are alike... so I look for a good Workout... and the good Windbreaks when I pass them...WHEW!... lol I know we get some very strong winds here, never know what you will come across... could be 20-30 mph, or gusts as high as 80+ mph ! (hope for the TAIL WIND!)
