Swim to work week
So much for Bike to Work Week. I had about 4 people ready to try riding their bikes to work this week, but after slogging through the rain this morning I didn't expect to see any of my coworkers bikes at work and my expectations were correct. It's been raining since last Wednesday and not supposed to clear out until like Saturday. At least in these parts, it looks like Bike to Work Week is gonna be a wash out. On the bright side, at least I'll have the roads pretty much to myself and the cagers all week.

No cyclists commuters here. I've only seen one other bona fide cycling commuter since i've started commutting. I've seen alot of people in kits in the late afternoons. Mostly around 5pm.

Because of a remote meeting I have Monday mornings if there is bad weather, I can't bike
Felt like a wimp this morning, but looks like MassBike wimped out too. An annual bike-to-work week event at a BBQ place in Somerville, just north of Boston, was posponed because of the rain.
Anybody got a pontoon bike!?

Some lady walking her dog this morning yells at me..."even in the rain". I holler back, "Yep". I always get comments like "good for you!" and "thats great", etc...but it doesn't really seem to inspire anyone else to get off their lazy arses.

I don't mind the rain but I did mind the mud and muddy water all over the street next to the construction site this morning. I thought the rain might clean off my shoes after some MTB'ing in them this weekend. I got to work and they were dirtier than when I started thanks to the mini-mudslide.

Yup, same thing here. Our cub scout picnic has been postponed twice. This weekend is our "rain or shine" date, so if it's still raining saturday we'll have an under-the-tent rain fest picnic.
The rain doesn't bother me at all for riding, but it's starting to bug me for getting stuff done around the house. I have a bunch of landscape plants in pots I want to plant, the lawn is a muddy damn jungle, etc.

The mix of rain and high temps here guarantee that you'll be soaking wet by the time you get to work. At least that's how it seems to me. I either sweat so much that I'm soaked or I get rained on so much that I'm soaked. Add in traffic that reminds me of a backed up toilet and I'm less than happy when I get to work.

Mid-Michigan's been getting hit with water every day for over a week, now. My wife and my mother-in-law (who came to help take care of the new baby boy!) both shake their heads every morning as I head out in my rain gear. Both other son's soccer practices and games got cancelled. No mowing or yard work of any kind. Sump pumps are running practically non-stop. The water got up to the bottom of the shed door, but since it hangs down lower than the floor, I still had an inch or so before it got inside. I now have a path marked out in my head of how to walk from the back door, across the yard and to the shed for the bike without stepping in puddles or mud. Now, if I can only remember the path along the "ridge" once the dry weather comes and try to get some better drainage in the back yard.

I saw ONE extra commuter this week, at least I think he was commuting. Had an older hybrid/MTB with full fenders, trudging along the sidwalk < 5mph wearing a helmet on his head in the same position that one would wear a kippah, all the way on the back of his head with no coverage on the front. <shrug> I just can't think that in a town of approximately 20,000 people that I am the only person who commutes to work?
