Took the Subway Today. Weird.
Going to a baseball game tonight, and I don't plan on riding home from the Bronx after a Yankee game at 11 in the evening. (I'll have my kid with me. Otherwise...sounds intriguing....) So I took the train in.
It's like going to a different country. People are so...odd! Everybody signifying their own little ideas of themselves, putting on makeup right there in front of the rest of the car, pretending not to see the pregnant woman and thereby keeping their seats. I felt like an alien.
On the plus side, my shirt wasn't dripping wet.

Isn't weird? I'm taking the subway today too... with my folder. Long story but I can't ride it today to the shop, where it needs a look. I'm steeling myself for the experience.

You'll feel like Keanu Reeves in "The Matrix" -- only you can see the world for what it is.

Bikes: Nothing special, but it works.
It's a good day to take the subway -- the radio in my office just informed me that there may be thunderstorms this evening, with gusty winds and possibly hailstones.
I left my bike at home today too.

I was about to say that the weather's never stopped me before, but...hailstones, you say? Hmmm.

Bikes: Too many 80s roadbikes!
You'll be sick as a dog in three days. Every time I take the train, I get a cold - I assume I just don't have the immunities people build up by standing so close to each other all week long, since I no longer stand around with all those people.

I was sucked into Grand Jury duty out in Queens this week. Monday, I took the subway from Astoria out to Kew Gardens, found out they were totally serious about the minimum 20 days of service, 4 weeks straight...
Now... taking the subway in the reverse commute direction is really an oddity. I actually get a seat...
So, Monday I scoped out the area. There are absolutely no bike racks by boro hall and the court house. Where do my taxes go...
The route I picked by bike is just shy of 10 miles one way, and I do get to go through Flushing Meadows park, which is nice. Bike ride is about 1 hour long, primarily due to red lights and lousy intersections. On some roads I go one block, hit red light. Lather, rinse and repeat. Walking/subway - trip time is 30-40 minutes.
This week, 3 days by subway, 2 days by bike. Next week I plan on taking the bike more than the subway. Only 3 weeks of this left... anyone have any good book recommendations??? Please?

I'll keep Dylan's biography in mind, thanks. I've got plenty of time to kill over the next few weeks...
I might start mixing the bike/subway thing to keep my commute time into jury duty in the morning down, then I'll be able to ride home at my leisure. Almost tempted to get a folding bike...
