Off topic, but related to bells... I often use my bell first for peds if I see them soon enough. I smile and wave if the situation provides an opportunity for it. Seriously, it's amazing what a smile does for people, I often get a smile back. I'll be as polite as possible if the bell fails, usually saying "coming through on your right/left/right between you two ingrates taking up all the space on the MUP..."
