Reason for a flat

My tube got a 2-pinsize hole on the tire side.
I could not see anything wrong with or stuck in the tire casing (supposedly kevlar). Its a fairly new tire 200-300km. Newish tube too.
I did not hear a blowout.

Will pinch flats create holes on the rim side of the tube?
Anything else could have caused the flat?

The two pin sized holes sounds just like a pinch flat... which almost always look like a snake bite.

My first suspicion for the cause of any flat that you can't find an offending object is a pinch, doubly so if there are 2 holes.

Hit any deep potholes lately? that's what did it for me on the last one I got.

^^ If you hit an asymetrical hazard, yes.

They can leave up to four holes if you really wail something.

There is just one hole... that hole is the size of sticking 2 pins into the tube. The hole is facing the ground/tire.

I can't make out what you mean, but half the time, the object that punctured the tube falls out before you notice the flat... So it could have been a nail or anything else.

Staple or pinchflat would be my guess. The latter is more likely.

pinch flats always make holes where the rim contacts the tube? -- it couldn't make a hole on the opposite side of the tube (the side that rolls near the ground)?

What size tire, how much do you weigh, and what pressure are you running? I run at least 120psi, closer to 140psi on my Fortezza's which are rated at 175psi. If you let the pressure get below 100, you're risking pinch flats.

these were 26x1.4"... they say 40-80psi range. They might have been a tiny bit soft, but I'd guess above 50psi. The gage on my pump is sucky so I don't really know the exact pressure in my tires. I weigh under 180.
