Zefal cyclops mirror repaired..... Again!

I like the France Zefal company. Excellent designs made of Plastic!! I hate plastic Will not stand up to normal wear and tear, crashes of your average commuter. First repair after a crash broke the plastic arms (broke my shoulder also ) Replaced arms with piece of aluminum ruler. My shoulder got the stainless steel...

Maybe Zefal marketing thinks we throw them in the trash and buy more plastic.
Only $10 after all. Today the plastic swivel on mirror itself broke off. After my commute today I felt nekkid without this mirror. Super glue/ epoxy is short term bandaid mickey mouse solution.

I put a carriage bolt into the plastic swivel and Voila, perfect fit. Viva la carriage bolt . Cut carriage bolt to size, filed broken part flat, and drilled hole. Screwed bolt into mirror for a new unbreakable steel swivel. One hour later and were checkin our 6 again.

The wooden light is proto stage Lux III 3w with air cooled 1/2 pentium heatsink. This was after my plastic Cateye light was destroyed.
Did I mention I Hate Plastic?

I bought one of these for just over under 4.00 at the LBS...

Steel and glass, could also be used to fight off a bear
Ugly, but very usable !

Nice mod! I haven't broken my Cyclops yet but it never seems to stay in place. I'm constantly re-adjusting it. This might be a solution. You really didn't break your shoulder, right?

Yes, the aluminum [ that replaced the plastic arms makes it much tighter than original. U can really tork the bolt without fear of plastic breaking. If it breaks any more eventually It will look like Lem"s

My shoulder repair was a little more expensive... Me and the cyclops took a beating that day. If you hit an Opossum at an angle even at 10mph you get slammed to ground. Careful out there.

Wow, that's quite a carriage bolt in your shoulder! I'm glad you came out of it OK...

I've got several Cyclops that I glue and rotate between my wife's and my bikes. Thanks for the great idea with the bolt!
