Eh, sometimes you get lucky. But spray paint and a fixie are absolutely the way to go. I think you can even find black chains.
Take off your brakes and shifters - no more chrome. My bike (were it not for the wheels, which I could spray paint if I wanted) would be all one color. Even spray painted the BB. Whoops.
