Our "Gordon the Big Blue Express Lococmotive" is actually a BikeE recumbent with an extra long frame.
It's obviously blue, has a second seat for one of the kids (the tender), and a Fimo Gordon face on the front of the frame. Words can't really do it justice, so I'll try to post a couple of pics soon.
Gotta go paint now, so maybe I can get them posted this evening.

New Christine and Old Christine – clears up confusion when explaining to my husband onto which of my recently-purchased bikes he needs to move the one set of clipless pedals. New Christine is one month younger than Old Christine. Also, like the show, Old Christine is better looking than New Christine.

I also *accidentally* bought a junky old Rockhopper. I am thinking of naming her The Hot Wad after Carl’s 2 Wicked car when he donated it and it was subsequently delivered to Meatwad on Aqua Teen.

I watch a lot of TV, what can I say?

I have to stop buying bikes.

My Surly Pacer road bike is Ruffian (after the famous racehorse from the 1970s, althoughbike is neither tall nor fast, but it is black)

My LHT touring bike is Camion. It's maned after a horse I knew, and it means truck in French)

My Gunnar mrn bike is Skitters. It skitters all over the trail.

My Novara towner bike is Morgan. It's a very versatile bike, like the Morgan Horse. It cam be built as a mtn tourer with knobbies or a faster tourer with skinny tires. Right now it's built just between the two.)

My bf named some of his bikes.

His Trek 970 commuter is Redox, It's a steel framed bike.

His Gunnar Roadie is Ferric, also steel.

His Surly Cross check tourer is Planet Express Bike.

He had a Trek 520 named Inertia, and a Trek 7000 named Entropy.

The Gary Fisher 29er I used to own was dubbed "The Bruiser" by a cycling co-worker. It stuck until I sold it. I now just have, "The cross-check", The "Giant", and "The Monkey" AKA "Skidmark" for the amazing shade of brown that Surly put on last years Karate Monkey.

Both bikes have names with literary associations. My commuter, a Trek Navigator 3.0, is named Excelsior after the Longfellow poem, and my Trek 7.5 fx is named Roark after the hero of Rand's The Fountainhead.

"my bike". My car is called "my car". My left shoe is called... you get the idea.
It's a damn hunk of metal. Why would it have a name?

because there are mornings when the bike seems slow and sleepier than you are, then after a few minutes on the road, it wakes up and starts flying up hills to greet the sun.

because there are rainy afternoons where the crackle and rattle of an insufficiently oiled chain sound like the grumbling of a tired steed that just wants to go home.

because there are moments when you are slaloming through city traffic, weaving through cars and peds like some urban dancer and it's all so effortless and easy that you're almost convinced that the bike is picking the line for you.

because there are the days when you pick up your bike as you head out, and the handlebars will twist to face you as if the bike wants to ask, "so, where to today?"

your bike has a name because it has a personality.

... of course, me, I don't have a name for my bike, because I think that anthropomorphizing inanimate objects is a romantic but personally counterproductive habit ... still makes me happy to see others do it, though.

My Trek 2300 is called "Guyute," which is a Phish song about an ugly pig. This bike is such a mish-mash of parts and has been wrecked several times; plus, both Ultegra shifters are missing the plastic caps that go on top. It has two different wheels on it, a red tire, a grey tire, and a Polar HRM that works for about half of every ride. It's still my baby, though.

My increasingly heavy commuter is hereby dubbed 'Bedonkadonk', particularly when the 30lbs of crap I carry to work once a week gives it a very large ass.

About like me - I've got the Raleigh and the Schwinn, or the road bike and the three speed.

If I'm feeling extra-geeky or extra-affectionate then I've got the Supercourse and the Speedster.

The Miyata, or the Raleigh, or the GT, or the tandem, or the Giant. Depends on which one I am talking about!

Perhaps it would be more useful to find the name of a good shrink, or at least stop imprinting phantom behaviors on inanimate objects. If the bike is slow some morning, news flash, it ain't the bike.

If it doesn't have a name, why would you post on this thread and be an ass about it?

Ah, such a wonderful and romantic view of life. What happy and vivid dreams you must have. And it's so admirable that you would choose to rob others of their own imagination.

My old Trek Y-50 was named "Danno" after the programme Hawaii 50. All my mates have nicknames for their bikes and we all ask each other how a certain bike is by it's name. We have "The Wild Wig" (Cyclewerks), "Driftwood" (Klein Mantra), "Two Bob" (Marin Bobcat) and my team partners Superlight which we call "Klunk" because he hates getting work done on it so it starts making noises.
