For $106 shipped you can get what many, including myself, consider the best rack, the Tubus Logo.

I just bought a cross check (the complete bike) and bought a basic rack in the store when I picked it up. Bad idea -- the CC has short chainstays, and I'm having problems with my feet hitting my Arkel briefcase. I ordered an Old Man Mountain Red Rock rack on Friday, which has a much longer top shelf. I'll let you know if it works!

I have a Red Rock also because of my big @ss feet. It did the trick for me, though I don't have a Cross Check.

I got the Axiom Streamliner on my LHT. For $ 23.00 it has a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs and a lifetime warranty. The only thing I had issues with is the adjustable attachement for the seatstays. I have to cut some off to clear the rear tires but other that that not a bad deal.

Does anyone have the Surly Nice Rack?!!

I know it's cromo tubing, but I like the idea of being able to weld it back together myself it it ever broke.

The Tubus Vega would be another choice. The stays on any of the Tubus adjust better to fit a wide variety of frames than just about any other rack.

Great rack. Probably a bit overkill, pricewise, but I don't regret the purchase.

Exactly what I was going to suggest, or a Nitto like this

It's a bit more spendy at $135, but you can't fake the funk.

+1 on the Jandd Expedition. Very sturdy. Lifetime warranty. Long enough to keep my heels from hitting my bags.

Looks like a tubus cargo knockoff. At 1/5(!) the price. Definitely good deal potential there w/ the lifetime warranty. Does axiom have a logo knockoff to address short chainstay issues? I do like my non-knockoff though. The assembly of parts at the bottom looks better than in the catalog picture of the axiom. But hey, lifetime warranty...

How wide is the Tubus Logo? Can someone who has one measure it? For some reason the Tubus site doesn't say.
