Good Idea or OCD

I really haven't had any issues with cars but I started trying to make myself look at license plates after a car goes by. I assume that if something ever happens at least I may get their license number. I am to the point that I can almost put a car with a plate that are reqular drivers.

Is this a good idea or borderline obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Good idea. I keep forgetting to train myself to do exactly this.

I think it's a good way to distract yourself from actual road hazards.

These are not mutually exclusive.

I try to do that when I'm driving and I see bad behavior. My reminder is, "Don't get mad, get a license number."

Besides, it might have value elsewhere. Years ago (and maybe now, I don't know) a part of speed reading training was to use this machine to flash words and phrases on a screen so a person could practice comprehending them quickly. Noticing license numbers might be a way to practice that skill.

i do this whether driving, riding, or jogging. it doesnt distract me from road hazzards, because that is my main point of attention. license places are secondary.

I would think once you hit the point that it is an automatic response the road hazards complaint would have even less validity than it already does.

Not all of them. But more and more. That is why I think it is turning a little on the OCD side. Keep in mind it is a rural area but there are still a couple of hundred per ride.

I keep telling myself to start doing this but seem to forget after the third or fourth car.

I have some OCD tenancies, but the one time I want it to work in my favor it's nowhere to be seen.

I actually got hit by a car in Las Vegas. The driver took off and I recorded his license plate number. The 911 dispatcher did not want it. They stated that not more than $2,500 in damage had been done and nobody was critically injured. They said I was welcome to come in to the station and file a report if I would like.

Hopefully he did not move on to flatten somebody else....

I have a photographic memory. I'm just out of film most of the time.
