I got hit!!!
On Wednesday, I was hit by a car while riding home from work. Thankfully, the driver stopped and I was able to get their insurance info. No broken bones, but my chiropractor tells me something is up with my neck and back. Do you guys have any advice as far as settling with insurance? I will be keeping track of missed time at work, medical expenses, the cost to replace my bike and clothes...is there anything I am missing? I've already spoken to their insurance company, and they have already admitted she was in the wrong and they will be paying, any specific tips for making sure I get myself totally covered by their insurance?

Get a lawyer and don't sign anything with the insurance company; keep all reciepts; write down everything you lost in the accident; write down all of your costs, including ambulance ride; make sure you see a doctor/physio; if you got badly, or even semi-badly hurt, don't take their offer for at least a few months to ensure that you aren't hurt

Get ready for a long process. I was hit last year and the insurance company initially told me they were going to settle and give me money. I thought that was it. Then they sent paperwork and it ended up taking about 6 months to settle. The insurance company was aweful to deal with. The changed adjusters all of the time and they really didn't seem like they wanted to pay. I eventually got a couple grand out of them but it was a frustraing process. Good luck.

Take pictures of your injuries ASAP, and more pictures as they heal up. Also, take pictures of your bike from different angles to show the damage to it.
If the police report is not yet complete, type up your version of the accident and submit it for inclusion with the official report.
Be honest with the insurance adjusters, don't try to game the system, but hold out for what you're due - all med bills, new bike, replacement clothing/gear, lost time at work, plus "pain and suffering / contingencies".
Note: You may be surprised to find yourself getting a rather largish check for "Pain and suffering".

I like the sceptiscizm (sp) regarding the bone doctors. I have seen them at fairs, malls, and conventions but I never see a real doctor at the same time.
Sorry for the hi jack and I really hope you get well soon. Good luck.

If you have health insurance, compensation for medical bills may go to your health insurance company.

I'm not one either. I had one tell me he could "correct" my scoliosis through treatment. That's a procedure unknown to medical science.
