Gisnt FCR Alliance versus Trek 7.7

I currrently ride a gary fiisher MTB and want to ride commuter trails and try some road riding. Both of these bikes kind of fit the bill style and price for me any suggestions?

OK -- I'll comment. Don't own either, BUT I am pretty much decided on one of these two (long process!). Like you, am/have been for a number of years now riding a 'roadified' mtb for commuting/longer road rides. Been looking at the FCRs and the Trek FXs over the past couple of years -- extensively tested both. Bottom line: I think (fwiw) that either is an excellent choice, depending on intended use. Quality I would say pretty much equal. So, first: if one fits better than the other, go for that. Both fit equally well, then it comes down to a couple of things. First, geometry: FCR slightly more road-race based, but with decent tire clearance for up to, say, 28s (even 32s in a pinch). Will be a bit lighter, accelerate a bit more quickly, slightly snappier handling. FX: slightly more touring geometry (longer wheelbase/chainstays)-- it will handle a bit more like your mtb/can use wider tires, and carry rear panniers without heel-strike if you think you might get into longer tours. Both will be superb all-weather commuters; FCR a bit more suited to fast fitness/road riding; FX a bit more suited to 'touring'. Takes your choice -- me, probably the FCR next spring. Cheers! (Add.: be prepared, if any further responses, for the "dude, get a REAL road bike/get a 'cross bike etc. etc." lines).
