This is a great opportunity to communicate a message.

But revenge is a path that never ends well...it's always damaging for everyone concerned.

Remember; "it's in pardoning that we are pardoned."

Go to supermarket.

Get 5 lbs of ground beef.

Place under Driver's seat.

Revenge accomplished.

Being on "his turf" is actually more of a liability for him. He is no longer anonymous, and can not race away in his car or hide. Most people would not feel comfortable in his position because they know that you could come back at any time or ID them to the police. True, he may see you riding again, but as long as you don't do or say anything violent he most likely won't either.

I agree that most drivers who buzz cyclists have little clue of what they did. That's why if I was able to follow a motorist to their location I would not make a scene. When they found my slightly intimidating note explaining the proper way to pass a cyclist (or what ever) they would not even know it was from me. Yet worded properly, it could easily cause them great concern if that is what you wish to do.

I've only actively engaged a car in-transit after being struck or having things thrown at me. I haven't ever keyed a car or done anything after-the-fact. I have followed people into parking lots or home to talk to them, but it's usually the insane grin and SUPER polite but very menacing niceness. The fact that I'm tattooed all over doesn't hurt. I have lots of people immediately apologizing when they get out or I confront them with what they did, and I always let that slide and end the lecture with "have a nice day".

And somehow YOU are so skilled and special that you can educate him? Most people are not very receptive to being "taught a lesson" by a complete stranger--- or anyone for that matter.

Make sure that he sees you write down his license plate, or taking a photo of it with your phone. The next time he sees any cyclist he will think twice about being a dick. You don't even need to say anything, just take the picture, making sure he notices, and then smile at him and ride away.

A bike sticker or pamphlet placed under his windshield wiper a few times(Maybe spaced out over a few weeks) would probably be MORE than enough of a reminder for him.

It'd be even better if you happened to see his car around other places... ie: grocery store and such. REALLY get him paranoid.

I had a similar situation once... a minivan buzzed me while the passenger screamed in my ear... I chased them for two miles (Driver was basically driving in circles, trying to lose me, not wanting to lead me to his house)... Finally lost me when I missed a light.

A couple weeks later the same minivan passed me again (Not buzzed, but still not a 'good' distance)... but this time he turned off a couple blocks down the road... so I turned, to see what there was to see... Lo and behold.... there he is, pulling into a driveway... I coasted up to the end of the driveway, and he's sitting in the van with the door open.

He steps out, looks up, and sees me standing over my bike at the end of his driveway. You should have SEEN his face! The blood drained and he turned white! I would have sworn he saw a ghost! I gave him a crooked smile and a sloppy salute, then rode off.

I've seen him on at least three other occasions... he ALWAYS passes with PLENTY of room now.

If you just want anonymous revenge without any real danger of getting caught... sign him up for some gay porn newsletters or something.... you have his address, right? not to mention every free 'sample' or whatever you can find... Oh, and those little 'giveaways' that you can register for all over the place? (Win a free vacation to xxxxx! Win a free Chevy Tahoe! etc...)

The possibilities are endless!

Yes. I've done it, actually. It's amazing how quickly a truck tire deflates without a valve core.

No revenge.

It's just an endless cycle.

The idiot that I just took revenge upon will take it out on someone else.

Reverse karma...

Of course...if you let the air out a drunk's tires, is it revenge or contribution to public safety?

Revenge for getting buzzed, no. But if I get hit and they don't kill me, I will hunt them down like the dirty dog that they are and make their life hell.

Leave it be. Why dwell in negative energy? All it will do is create an air of negativity around you and that is not anything I like to invite into my space.

One thing to consider: don't escalate things too badly if there's a good chance you might meet again on the roads. I strongly agree with the 'I know where you live now!' mentality - he's far less likely to mess with you again.

If he does, all bets are off.

Or any of the rest of us. Taking 'revenge' is just going to increase the existing dislike many motorists feel towards bikers. Educate if you feel you must (motorist violating law, behaving unsafely) but any type of revenge will just make it harder for all of us to ride.

+1

And based on the poll results, most other sane people agree.

Or maybe WE just missed out not going to Bad-Azz Camp.

I'd take revenge, but not by damaging his car. I'd put eye drops in his drink! Then, buzz him with my bike as he ran for the bathroom!

If this guy would have honked and then buzzed me I would be more inclined to take my revenge... but it seems like he might have just been tired from a long night at work or something.

So I'll let this one slide (THIS TIME).

My thought is, you know, there are some REAL whackjobs out there. Some of them drive a car, some may be mentally ill, some may be carrying a piece (not pie either)...others, well...they just be Grade A genuine a-holes all the time or some may have a momentarily lapse into a-holeness as a result of coping with stresses of life in an unhealthy way.

At any rate...I'm not going to risk potential injury to myself, or worse, leave my wife a widow and my kids fatherless because of some 2-15 second event where I'm on a bike, someone acts like an a-hole in a car, and I reciprocate the other person's a-holeness. It just ain't worth it.

Exactly. I ran into one of those guys driving. He cut me off and I stood on the horn. He slammed on his brakes got out if his car and what followed was an interaction with someone that was definitely not mentally balanced. He opened my car door and dropped his pants. I was lucky I was able to stop the escalation before things got worse.

I learned my lesson. Feeling better by getting back at someone, risks substantial consequences including injury, death or involvement in the criminal or civil courts. A stupid 15 second decision can have longterm consequences. It's just not worth it.

At most, leave a polite note on the car with a reference to that tag/license number. He could privately or publicly blame you for anything that happened to his car in the next two weeks otherwise.
