Anyone using the Shimano Alfine 8-Speed Internal Hub
#51
My LBS has called me back, they cannot get the 23T cog until April, maybe, Shimano is out of stock. I ordered the 22T cog, but I'm wondering if there is another choice besides Shimano, does anyone know of a different company or even a different Shimano part that would fit the Alfine 8 speed hub, and maybe have a 24T ?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sram cogs (not iMotion) would also work, and they make a 24t: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-sprocke...nal-gear-hubs/

I've been using one for over two years now and think they are great units overall. They seem to be a well sealed and "bullet proof "unit but the shift linkage has to be adjusted perfectly. If your shift linkage is off at all there will be clutch slippage in the higher range. Some have talked about preferring the trigger shifter, but I actually wore one out. I like the twist grip, it has about 4 moving parts compared to about 30 on the trigger.

I've ridden Nexus/Alfine exclusively for about 5 years now and am sold on IGH's in general. I have no desire to go back to a conventional derailleur drivetrain, particularly for commuting.

Bikes: Cross-Check/Nexus commuter. Several others for various forms of play.
No. That post was in 2007 and I was referring to the Alfine (period). Which was been around (i.e. generally available, not just on new bikes or smuggled in) since early 2008. Quite some time, now!
