rain pants
Anyone have a good link to waterproof pants? Doesn't have to be biking specific but does have to be cheap. I live in South California and will probably only use the afew times at most so I really dont want to spend hundred of dollars on fancy, hi-tech, gortex ,space-age stuff!
Thanks.

Thanks.

J&G Cycle wear is a good source for this. linky
The breathable rain pants work well here in Seattle, but the wind pants might make more sense in Cali.

You said you don't want to "spend hundreds of dollars" so for exactly $100 you can get Pearl Izumi Amfib pants. Do a search on them, they are top notch and you will not be dissappointed.

Bike poncho and fenders....no rain pants necessary.
You can buy a bike poncho online or just get a regular rain poncho and sew two elastic loops rear and center (your legs go through these to hold the poncho onto your butt) and two thumb loops on the front.

Yeah, I tried that once. The first good gust of crosswind nearly pushed me under a truck. I threw it away. Ponchos must have been developed in areas where there isn't much wind.

I'm about to head out into some light rain right now. I don't use rain specific pants because it's difficult to predict when you will need them. Just get some fast drying technical polyester and embrace the rain. If you try to fight it with waterproof stuff you'll just end up stewing in your own sweat. I'd rather be wet with relatively clean rain then wrapped in plastic and soaked with sweat.

Then you're going to sweat a lot and get wet that way. It sounds like you're going to get wet if you spend money and wet if you don't, so why not get wet without spending any money?

I am not going to get that sweaty. I don't ride a road bike and I ride at a fairly moderate pace. Also, I am not hairy. It seems like the hairier people get the hottest and sweat the most.

Wow. Just wow.

Fenders for sure, but in SoCal, when you're wet, you're wet. Why bother trying to keep dry in rain? I tried a rain jacket, but still got wet, either from the rain or sweat. If it's cold, that's one thing, but what temps are you talking?

I've really enjoyed my rain pants from https://www.foxwear.net/ . So far, I'm warm with just the lightest weight ones down into the low 30s. They do get a bit toasty above the mid 50s, though.
