I wake up at 5:30 a.m. to shower, eat, etc.

Leave home at about 7:00 a.m. for 10 mile one way commute.

Start work at 8:00 a.m.

Back when I worked for the government, I was much faster. I got off work at 4:15 p.m. and I was usually home by 4:00 p.m.!!

3:30 get up
3:50 leave the house for my 27 mile commute
5:50 arrive at work and take a shower
6:10 start work

I can only manage getting up at 3:30 one day a week. Normally I get up at 5:00. To save time in the morning I eat on the bike (protein shake in a water bottle, banana, maybe a cliff bar, water).

Getting a hot cup of tea, once at work, feels just as good as the shower.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

0530 - alarm starts going off
0630 - I get tired of hitting the snooze, so I finally get up
0650 - dressed & out of the house
0657 - check in at work

0700-0730 - breakfast at the Korean-run sub shop
0730-0800 - change clothes, figure out what we're doing for the day
0800 - start working
between 1500-1600 - go home

I shower the night before (helps keep the sheets nicer) and make sure I've got everything ready before going to bed. I don't want to wake up in a rush and forget something important.

From: I lost my legs
My winter routine is very different from summer. Some sort of hibernation instinct kicks in which makes it very tough for me to get out of the house early. I suppose that's fine since it's usually too cold to lengthen my commute much anyhow (Minneapolis area).

Winter Commute Schedule:
0500 alarm clock first goes off
0600 alarm clock shuts off after an hour of snoozing
0615 I'm finally out of bed and getting cleaned up (currently no showers at work)
0630 Get dressed with most of my winter layers
0640 Eat something while watching the Weather Channel and realizing I over/underdressed
0650 Find work clothes, roll them up, and throw them in the messenger bag
0700 Get lunch around and finish packing bag for the day
0705 Final preparations (gloves/balaclavas/goggles/boots/etc.)
0710 Leave the house for a seven mile commute
0740 Arrive at work, lock the bike up to the parking garage
0745 Unpack at desk and turn on the fan to cool down
0750 Baby wipe shower in the bathroom stall and change clothes, etc.
0800 Start working

Non-winter commutes usually have me leaving the house by 0530 or 0600 at the latest. We're also getting a fitness center/showers at my building in a couple months, which will drastically change my routine. I've had showers at previous jobs, so I'm pretty excited about having one upon arrival again.

No argument. It's just psychological for me. I love the night - I guess I associate it with pleasure and relaxation. Would be a shame to waste it by sleeping through it.

Bikes: Upgraded Scott Sub 20 in silver; Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 2006 in limited edition Army green; Dahon Curve D3 foldable in white; Dahon MU P24 in blue.

I forgot to mention, I prep the bike the night before (check tire pressure etc) and pack my things like the extra clothes into my backpack. In the morning, I am usually too rushed to want to do these things. Oh and to decide which bike to ride in the morning (full sized bike if I have no appointments, and the Dahon foldie if I am meeting the wife for a date).

However, one thing I really DO before I leave in the morning, is to check the gears and lights. My toddlers like to shift my gear trigger levers and turn on my lights. Hahaha!

6:30 alarm goes off
6:50 wake up, brush teeth, dress
7:00 pump tires & out the door for 19 miles
8:00 arrive at office, check email and voicemail while i change shoes & shirt, freshen up
9:30 everyone shows up
5:30 everyone leaves
6:00 change shoes & shirt
6:10 out the door
X:XX back home when i feel like it

i do this 3 or 4 days a week depending on my schedule and meetings. i just prepare everything the night before so i don't have to deal with it in the morning (iron pants, pack bag, pack lunch, shower, shave). i'm in bed by 11pm. sometimes i hit the gym, a group ride or something crazy like a 60 mile detour before i hit home.

I work on shift. Twice a week have to be at the pool at 6.15am for lifeguard duty.
5.30 wake up, usually before alarm. Wash up, feed my 2 lovebirds and a Blue-fronted Amazon parrot and fishes. Have my cup of coffee.
6.00 Do a quick check on the bike and off I go. Well from home to pool is only 3.5km.

5.3 mile (20-25 minutes) ride to work. Below is my normal morning routine.

6:00 am alarm goes off and I'm up
6:05 make breakfast and eat while skimming morning paper
6:40 to the shower and other personal hygiene issues
7:15 dress and pack bag for the day
7:45 on the bike
8:10 locking up the bike and changing clothes.

While we don't have a formal flex time schedule, I can arrive at work between 7:00 and 8:30 am. Since I have a fairly easy ride in, a lot of my timing coincides with activities of the rest of the family. Right now we're all getting up at about the same time and I'm generally not having to take a turn doing the morning dog walk. When the weather warms up, I may start showering at work and will adjust my schedule accordingly, but doubt it will change the time I set my alarm to go off.

Bikes: ANT Club Racer, 2004 Trek 520

14 mile commute one-way. Work start is variable, but usual expectation is that if I'm not 'on the clock' by 9:30 am, I need to send out e-mails to folks saying that I'm running late and to adjust accordingly.

7:00 am -- wake
7 - 8 -- drink coffee, eat toast, change into bike clothes, prep bike, check weather, goof off on internet.
8:00 am -- kiss girlfriend (who is just getting up and only has a 6 mile commute with 10:00 work start), leave.
9:00 am -- arrive in office.
9:00 -- 9:15 -- check and respond to any high priority e-mails, drop off lunch, start shower
9:30 -- on the clock, make second breakfast (usually instant oatmeal)

oh, and as to when I sleep, it's usually around midnight, unless I feel like going out to a bar or nightclub that night, then it's usually around 2am with a plan to send out a 'running late' e-mail at 8 the next morning.
