About 34 miles round trip which takes me from West Houston to the Third ward (Southeastern Houston) and back.

My commute is only three miles each way...which is good, because I'm a total n00b.

Six miles round trip through Chicago streets. I was thinking I'd have about the shortest ride but I suppose any shorter people would be walking.

I don't have the fortitude to go the whole roundtrip distance (42 miles) so I do a "park and ride" commute to work which is 14 miles round trip...

or you might try this approach:
mon - drive in to work with bike, ride home
tues - ride into work and drive bike home
repeat as necessary...

which would break the commute into 25 miles rather
than 50...

changed in 2007!

was 3.2 miles in, 3.3 return (vb) 2002 -2007.

we moved...

now i have a 10.5 mile route in, repeate return or may add on to after work rides to total
21.0 to 24.5 miles. i miss the earlier distance, still appreciate the opportunity to commute, and love to ride my bicycle!

Bikes: Batavus Boulevard, race bike frame to convert to fixed gear

28 kilometers one way which is 56 roundtrip
I'm a year round, all weather, every day bicycle commuter.

I'm using a comfortable 7 speed 28" batavus with full automatic lights, hub generator and all that jazz
the derailer isn't used at all... it's permanently in 5th gear, which suits me fine.

planning to convert an old 80's race bicycle to fixed gear for some minimalistic summer fun
given the distance, that should be a lot of fun

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

43 miles RT, at least once a week.

I used to commute 52 miles round trip, about two times a week. I'd commuted by bike more often but did not because it was night shift and that deprived me of too much sleep time. Night shift was 12 hours. I'd preferred to have commuted by bike every day, but one must sleep.

Today was my first commute. The drive route is 5.6 miles each way, I'm gessing the bike route is 5.2 - I'll have to check that out. (Drive route - more arterials without bike lanes, bike route - more bike lanes, more side streets, more direct, too.)

I once had a nice commute of 15 miles each way, between Watertown, MA and Natick, MA. Now it is just from Watertown to Cambridge, 3 to 5 miles each way depending on route. But I have at least 4 different routes. Shortest and fastest is straight in on Mt. Auburn St. but involves lots of traffic, buses and narrow outside lanes with parked cars. Then there is Arsenal St, more space with wider outside lanes, but a little longer. My back streets route in between those two is longer still, with some good hills and views of the Boston skyline. Most pleasant, at least in the off season when not too crowded, is the paths along the Charles River, which can be varied by crossing at various points and using both sides of the river. There is even a quarter mile of wilderness singletrack at one point (Gerry's Landing aka Hell's Half Acre).
