&?!*%^$# missed a day
I've bike commuted every day this year... but yesterday. I had to have some car work done, which is ironic because I hardly ever drive the car any more. It may even be that endlessly sitting in the garage is what did in the aging battery.
So, I've missed a day. And I so wanted a perfect year.
Plus, I usually play tennis at lunch and I missed that too. By the time I drove home I was going nuts. I'm not really an a jock. I guess I just like being active. All this bike commuting has me hooked, I guess. I really missed it.
Share my pain.

I'll be missing a day tomorrow because of the rain. I don't know what it is but I'm just sick of riding in the rain when its cold. I told myself I'll ride everyday no matter what the weather condition is for this year. But lately I've been discouraged when its raining. I feel like a wimp.

My car has given me more trouble since I barely drive it anymore than when I was driving it daily. Kinda sucks.

OK well I'm just finishing up a double shift, so I never got to go home last night and I've had no sleep. This means I can't go for my post commute run as its full of school kids going to school and I hate being stared at by them and I'll have missed a journey back and a journey home again on my bike. Also there was a mistake made by a lazy collegue which although not made by me, I was team supervisor and I'm sure I will get dragged into it.
Still means I get an extra day off and lots more money, cuse of the overtime. I'm mostly P*ssed about missing the biking as my weightloss programme was going good and today I'll have to sleep and make it up on my days off. I'm bigtime annoyed with my collegue as well.

Occasionally my car will take work I can't do such as NY state inspection or new tires mounted and balanced. I'll stick my bike on top. Drive to the garage and ride my bike to work... no I won't be waiting for my car thank you, as I plop my helmet on my head and walk out to grab my bike. Sometimes I get a funny look. I've had to skip a few days this year just because the weather was too severe for example: Too much snow during the night so the plows could not get the roads clear enough, or steady 35+ MPH wind with gusts up to 80 MPH. I try to ride every possible day, but I do have to use a little common sense every so often. I don't like those days and LOVE getting back on my bike the following day. I am not worried about a "perfect attendance badge." As long as I know I've ridden every reasonable day, I feel good.
Happy riding,
André

I feel your pain.
With the arrival of my winter beater, I've had a perfect record so far this year. In past years I averaged three days a week. Now I'm starting to wonder if I can possibly make a perfect year. Based on past experience, it should be nearly impossible, but also based on past experience I should have driven at least once this year, but I haven't. Now I'm getting worried.
Regarding the car repair scenario, our car repair place is at about the half-way point on my trip to work. For Christmas I got myself a folding bicycle. When/if the car needs repair, I plan to drive to the repair place, drop off the car, ride to work on the folder, and reverse the process on the way home. In that situation, I will count it as a biking day for my record-keeping.
It's REALLY irritating to not be driving and still need a car repair. When the last kid is launched in four years we are going to one car.

Ahh. Yes, I might have taken the bike o the car repair then ridden to work. I'd totally count that as riding. BUT I work at a college with an auto repair class that was doing my car, so my ride would have been 20 feet or so, only 5 outdoors. Seemed pointless, plus the commuter bike doesn't really fit in the Miata at all.

Cars are an expensive pain in the posterior. We have one, mainly for Herself and the kids, although I do use it too. A few months ago it need some work. Luckily a friend of mine is a very good mechanic and doesn't charge me labor. Still cost me in parts and my time.
She drives it, but I fill it up. I still haven't figured out how that works.

I honestly don't see why people get so bent out of shape about missing a day of commuting. Although funny you mentioned car troubles. I'll be brining mine to the dealer this week. Apparently there is an oil leak and some trouble with the engine. Very strange considering I put max of 2k miles on it since last summer. The plan is to bring my road bike with me and ride from the dealership to the lab. Commuting on carbon bike with my new carbonsole road shoes. Bling Bling. Car light SoCal style!
