Very nice! Beats the hell out of my commute route.

It's kinda funny to me.. I think we get jaded by our commutes. For instance, I don't think my commute is that great. It could be worse for sure... but I've got to deal with those stairs and that boring rail trail thing which are ok and fun and good exercise, but I tend to get jaded by them. Sometimes, I wish I had one of those inner city commutes, like in downtown Toronto, where your right in on all the action, darting in and out from the streetcars and dodging doors and etc.
But, if THAT were my commute, I'd probably be wishing I had a rail trail or something really relaxed. One commute I'm thankful I don't have is 10 miles down one of those straight flat big busy streets. I'd probably go insane.

The greatest part about my commute is that if I want "relaxed", I can easily find it if I just make it a bit longer. As long as it's not a warm sunny day - on those days the trails are a zoo and more stressful than the familiar downtown streets!

Looks like a nice ride (Actually we probably live near each other).
If you don't want to take the stairs and prefer to ride. You could take the rail trail south from Upper James, cross into the red hill creek system and follow the paths all the way down. It crosses Lawrence, Queenston and Barton streets near the new expressway. It's a nicer ride, but a few more hills.

Those stairs look like a real biotch! I'm not surprised you dislike them.
Envy me! Envy me!

Is there a Tim Hortons in the area? When we're in the Great White North, we always make it a point to stop in a Timmys for a great cup of joe.
Nice pics!

Actually, we're pretty busy.. I was just kind of making a joke about being lazy. My job is pretty sporadic.. I'll be so busy I can't breathe for 2 hours and then get an hour of nothing, then then the phones start up again, etc. I'm a steel salesman, and one of the shop managers.
I used to live in the Hammer, but wasn't much of a cyclist when I did. I lived downtown, anyway. Where are those trails, exactly?

This thread should be stickied! haha.
My commute today was total win! Just perfect out, and with the new panniers I no longer have to bungee cord a bunch of crap up on my rack. 75 km this week total. Not huge, but alot for me being that I do wimp out and drive sometimes.

Those are some great pics, very nice. Hamilton area has some great riding. I live in mississauga and I do long distance rides into hamilton/ancaster area. There are some really nice rail trails, great road riding, and some singletrack, but the big hills can be a killer especially for me since I ride single and fixed.

Wow, this is awesome. When I saw the wheel trough I had to stop and think, "Did he really ride down those stairs?". This looks like a fun idea, even if I don't post it here the pictures will be there for years for me to remember.

Thanks for sharing. Like the pic on the top of the stairs. I think you'll like the Trek 7.5 FX. Had one since late summer of '07 and like it. I was just thinking earlier today about how it would sure be nice down the road to live close enough to commute to work.
My walk to the library=exercise + save on fuel (very short trips not good for car either) + reduces pollution.

Where is that trail? I'd be interested to check it out this summer. Also, there HAS to be a more enjoyable route down that hill...
