Most of my commute is through a residential area and I encounter a lot of dogs, cats and squirrels during my rides. (I actually almost ran into a squirrel the other day, because it dumbly darted in front of me.) Anyway, cats and squirrels tend to run from me; dogs, naturally, tend to bark and chase. I've decided my least favorite dog breeds to be chased by are schnauzers and chihuahua/chihuahua mixes. Yep. Little annoying beasties.

Least favourite? Any that aren't quiet and tethered to something.

Dang near hit a racoon last year, but that is not a dog is it? Labs are fast adn always want to "play" usually are nice dogs though.

Any dog that chases me with a mean bark... And you can tell the difference between a friendly bark and a mean bark...

(was chased by a junkyard rottweiler that was roaming out on the street the other day in the middle of a morning commute... not fun.)

I hit a scottish terrier once - it darted out in front of me and I was braking and trying to turn as I hit it. I went over the handlebars and messed up my shoulder. The dog owner was upset at me (she felt that I shouldn't be going that fast)- which made me wish that I had hurt the dog - I was definitely more injured than the damn brick-dog.

I understand that the bicycle brings out a dog's "inner wolf." Big dogs--labs, German shepherds, etc.--generally just want to play. The only time I have ever bee bitten by a dog chasing me it was an American Eskimo Dog (what used to be called a "Miniature Spitz"--you know, those little, fluffy white things, like live dustmops.)

Most cities have ordinances requiring dog owners to keep their animals under control. The owner ought to either have kept her dog on a leash or had it properly trained to voice command. Had the matter come to court, the Judge probably would have told her as much.

Any dog that can jump as high as my head when it barks at me. Aussie cattle dogs and Jack Russell's, I'm looking at you.

The breed of dog isn't necessarily the problem. I own a schnauzer and she would never chase a bike. Recently I had a couple terrorist wiener dogs come after me. Pretty intimidating let me tell ya.

We have a leash law here, so no dogs should be out roaming. Inevitably some are. (Maybe they are very clever and can get out of their yards.) The meanest dog on my commute is also a dustmop looking thing, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe a shih-tzu mix or something. It's securely fenced, though. The other day I did hear a very mean bark and heard a rustling in the bushes and out...runs...this medium-sized dog that was seriously the fattest dog I've ever seen. I actually considered finding its owner and offering to help it exercise.

I also pass a parrot on my commute. Its cage is on the front porch of a house and it sits on top and squawks. If that bird ever came near me, I'd probably wreck myself trying to get away!

I called it "Aw Crap". It was a small dog. It would always be with the kids playing in the street. I'd have to slow down to weave thru the kick ball game. The dog wouldn't chase me. It would be barking at me, the whole time running in front of me in a random zig zag pattern, so it could see me.

Now that I ride to the daycare instead of the house, I don't have to deal with him anymore.

Any little yapper. There's nothing more annoying than having to go out of your way to protect something that thinks it's menacing you.

If a dog wants to threaten me, I want to have more concern for my safety than accidentally injuring it while trying to avoid it. Very few dogs that I encounter fall into this category.

I hate the ones that I can hear barking, but can't quite see where they are coming from in the early morning light.

One particular pit that chased me this winter due to the fact that his owner did not have it on a leash.
Little ankle bitters I can deal with. Large aggressive dogs are disconcerting.

I don't have a least favorite dog. I have least favorite owners. Those are any owner that does not properly train, restrain and/or contain their pet. I'm a dog owner. You can bet that my dogs do not chase bikes, even when we are playing in our unfenced yard and they are running loose. Being chased by dogs is a human issue, not a canine issue.

That's what pepper spray is for.

The one's that don't bark - you just hear the sound of toenails coming up fast behind you . . . .

Jack Russell Terriers. My ex had two during our marriage. I've seen them chase German Shepherds down the street. Ours were so well matched that till one died, there was a constant and frequently violent struggle for dominance.

And nikirtehsuxlol is right, that it is also the owners. Since I've had good dogs before the marriage I watched Ceasar to see what had I been doing wrong with the JRTs. I've come to understand where I went wrong, but also realized that even if I had been perfect, there was no way I could have overcome the influence of my ex. Still, if I get another dog it's going to be a Sheltie.

Dogs don't really bug me, but owners do.

Not in terms of biking, but I tend to not like little dogs in general. We have a dachsund at home that is awesome, but we also have a ****zu-Poodle mix that I loathe. She eats grass and vomits everywhere, which in turn stains her beard hair and makes her smell constantly...she barks at anything, waking up my 1 year old daughter from her naps, won't eat the food given to her but instead steals everybody elses and is generally a huge PITA.

Anyone looking for a small dog?

I used to hate the dogs that ran out in front of me at the bottom of a huge hill on my route. I'd be going 30 mph, and they would come running out in the road in front of me.

One dog I've encountered twice...an intact chocolate Lab who seems fairly aggressive about chasing me...at least his barking and slobbering seems aggressive. He runs in front of me and then tries to circle back on me. A little scary, but I told him in a loud voice to back off and he seems to listen...or maybe I'm just getting far enough out of his territory that I'm not perceived as a threat.

As a dog owner (three Bernese Mountain Dogs - big beautiful animals) I am well aware that it is owners responsible for these situations. My dogs would never be allowed outside without a fence. They are rarely outside without someone being there with them.
