30L total Sounds like you figured it out.

Grocery panniers are *marketed* so you'll buy 2 paper bags worth. Really, same with the wald folding ones. For the Walds, a regular canvas bag works fine since you need a liner to keep small stuff from trying to fly out. With a grocery pannier, just take it into the store and use it as your shopping bag.

Do fill us in with how the Basils work out for you.

I tried to save and use an old shoulder bag ( the kind you can fit under an airline seat) and wired the stiff bottom of the bag to the top of my rear (Raleigh Sprite 27 book rack). It's working ok until I can get the grocery panniers. Holds about 2 full plastic bags of groceries maybe 2 1/2.
