ever forget work essential things and have to go get them

last week I almost forgot part of my uniform and had to turn around for it, luckily I had only gone 100 ft

Have you ever got to work and realized that you cannot do your job without something you left at home?
like a laptop, set of keys, part of a uniform, tools or anthing else?
did you go back for them, just go home, or try to do with out them?

My wife often forgets her bra and occasionally her tooth [long story]. Usually she notices something is amiss at the bottom of the first hill, then turns around to ride home.

I can hardly count the number of times I've forgotten a tooth anymore!

The worst I've forgotten (other than the tooth) is keys, but someone else will eventually show up and let me in.

yeah, when i first started commuting it was always something - socks, underwear, shoes. but after a while i went a little ocd about making sure i had a system to not forget anything. no worries after that.

its a lot easier when u can ride in your work clothes as i can now.

I have the pleasure of getting to climb a huge hill every morning as soon as I get outside so if I forget something and remember by the time I've already made it up the hill, I do without.

I forgot my belt once. It was a minor inconvenience. I just did a Jethro Bodine and used a piece of rope...

Later,

Used to forget my belt. Now I throw everything in my messenger bag at night. I clip my work ID badge on my messenger bag strap. I get to work at 0600 so I need my badge to get inside.
By golly, you can't forget your ID badge or you'll get treated like a terrorist by security. At least until 0800, then terrorists and other misfits get to enter the building unchecked. I always holler as I go by security, "It's 0800, all terrorists can come in now!"

Very rarely. The secret is to pack and plan ahead. Occasionally I'll leave my cell phone behind, but for the most part I can live without it. Clothes? Already in the panniers and carefully checked that all articles are accounted for. Name badge, thumbdrive and security FOB? Laid out on the dining room table and these items I can make do without for a day or so.

The worst thing I've forgotten was a work shirt and my folks were kind enough to run one down to me.

I've forgotten a belt, socks, underwear, and deodorant (not all at the same time). In each case I was able to buy a quick replacement from a nearby store.

Now I keep a spare belt and deodorant at work (took me surprisingly long to figure that out!)

Last week (Monday morning, of course) I forgot my ID (2nd time in 7 years). Was sitting outside of work contemplating how many times I'd have to get someone to let me in and out during the day and decided to ride on home and get it. Was (am) riding a pretty fresh bike build, so I didn't mind all that much.

Still was back, showered, and signed in by 7:00. It was interesting to ride the opposite way at that hour of the day (into the sun)...

It happens rarely and mostly when I've had to take the car in the day before. I've forgotten to pack underwear and socks, belt on a few occasions. The only thing I've had to go back for are my glasses. I see well enough to ride but not well enough to read the computer screen (farsighted).

One of my employees forgot his laptop yesterday. I offered him my bike to go pick it up, as he lives half the distance from work that I do but drives a fancy car. He just laughed at me.

I forgot my cable lock once. Fortunately, there was a bike shop not too far from my route.

I keep spares for everything in my office. We are a shirt-and-tie office, so I keep underwear and a shirt and pants that I don't like enough to wear frequently in my office.

I also keep all of my ties at work, a brown/black reversible belt, black, blue, and brown socks, and a blue blazer.

Strangely, I haven't forgotten anything, yet.

I store my bike inside, so I need no lock, and it hasn't been warm enough in the morning for me to worry about deodorant (it's getting there, supposed to be 90 tomorrow, was only 50 this morning).

I store a change of clothes in my messenger bag with my Badge and proxy card, cell phone, and keys.

The downside is I end up eating McDonalds every day since I don't take my bike out to lunch. Which is the downside of not bringing a lock. I think I might buy a Cable lock to store a work.

In my building, you need an ID to get into the mens room on my floor. It's the only bathroom, mens' or womens', in my building where you need to do that. It's absurd. If you forget your ID, going to a different floor isn't an option because you need the ID to get onto a different floor.

I've forgotten my ID twice in the two years I've been working here, and it feels ridiculous to have to borrow someone else's just to use the damn toilet. And it's kind of a private thing, you know? I don't necessarily want to inform my cube neighbors by asking to borrow someone's ID.

I forgot my underware once. Since then I devised a system. I always remember that I need (4) articles of clothing (pants, underware, shirt, t-shirt) and (2) shoes with socks in one shoe, belt in the other.

I still forget my water bottle a lot though.....

Bikes: Too Many

It's part of being human. If we were all perfect and never made mistakes this world would be an exceptionally boring place to live. Each year you live you become a little more "human".

I forgot to bring a fresh towel yesterday. I ended up "borrowing" one quick (ssh) and using my t-shirt.

+1 for belts

Good thing I had some cat-5e cable lying around, made myself a makeshift belt. There was NO way I was going to walk around without one, since my jeans are way too big after loosing all this weight
