Anyway, liberal or conservative, seems a "failure to yield" ticket is pretty light for a hit and run. Then again, it's Washington DC. Justice and people's rights are the least of their worries.

regardless of status, wealth, or celebrity, i've seen so many similar cases where drivers had gotten off very light for things like this. so, although this is another example of a rich well connected dude getting off easy, i think it's just par for the course as far as hit-and-runs go.

Facts galore. However, he buys energy credits to make up for it all. He is also the one on the private jets to talk against driving anything other than a hybrid or electric to visit grandma on Christmas.

Anyways, this story is just more proof that Novak has one of the blackest hearts in DC.

I think that's standard for ped/bike strikes via car......that's what my guy got charged with:. In VA, it's VA Code 46.2-820.

Technically, the guy could have (and should have) also been charged with violations of:

46.2-924 - Drivers to stop for Pedestrians
46.2-841 - Illegal passing on right

If he got convicted, that would be 10 points on his license (12 is an automatic suspension). As it is, I have to make sure he gets the 4 points (that stay on for 3 years). I think that "Failure to Yield ROW" is likely an easier charge to convict on in traffic court, so the police use that as a catch-all.

Anyway, back to the Novak incident. With all those witnesses, and it hitting the press (and Novak having deep pockets and a reason to make this go away quickly), the guy he hit is likely VERY popular with the PI lawyers right now.....(as he should be). Novak should have been charged with hit and run, too.

You have provided just another link that comes from the same single source, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR). The TCPR is a right-wing/libertarian-leaning "think tank" that has an ax to grind against environmentalists. This group has ties to the American Enterprise Institute, which has received more than $1 million from ExxonMobil. This group is trying to discredit Gore and using any means necessary. Their press release on the Gore's energy use is meant only to create confusion. They've given up on saying that global warming is a hoax, so they're attacking the messenger.
I'm weary of seeing these counterintuitive, specious right-wing memes solidify into "common knowledge." Believe me, I'd prefer if Gore's energy consumption was more along the lines of Ed Begley's, but it isn't. That he buys clean-energy credits to offset this is perfectly legitimate, but as an admirer of his, I would certainly prefer that his house ran on its own solar panels. Which, according to the story you linked to above, they are doing.

In the past, you could avoid going to war if you sent someone in your place. Usually a less affluent, destitute person, possibly more than one. I find energy credits, carbon credits, whatever, to be the same type of thing.

Can I buy a hummer and drive it excessively, all while running my air conditioning down to 65 all summer, and my heat up to 85 all winter, if I can find some hut dwelling pygmies in a forest somewhere to sponsor me? I agree in principle, but I don't think this is the same thing, quite. This isn't like Kyoto emission credits, which are finite and can be purchased only from those nations who don't use them. (The idea being to keep greenhouse emissions on a reducing schedule.) This is paying a solar-electricity company for the electricity you use. It's unlikely that the electrons flowing into the Gore's house are all solar, but he paid through the Green Power Switch program for his 221,000 kilowatt-hours, so $30,000 worth of solar/geothermal/green energy went into the Tennessee grid.

I've heard of carbon credits, and the like. Which I think are a total load of BS. (I've always wondered why the government and the media like to try and guilt trip me out of my money....)
