Fall is almost here
I don't know why but the early Fall is my favorite time to ride. I've been going in to work earlier since oboebaby came on the scene 3 months ago so it's a bit chillier every day because I'm in the shade early on during the ride. It's been around 60 degrees at 7AM the last few days so I've been out in arm warmers and it really feels great. There's nobody kicking soccer balls under wheels at that hour too.

I rode in this morning at ~6:15 and the temps were nice (mid 70s)! Still a bit humid though... I'm also anxiously waiting for the cooler months here in the ATX...96F right now.

It was 12°C this morning in Vancouver. This is god's weather for cycling. Arm warmers, knee warmers, a little chilled when I stepped out the door, but after about 2km I could have kept going all day.

We been very fortunate this August in middle Tennessee. Last summer at this point we were seeing highs well over 100 every day, and today I don't think it's even topped 80! (of course it's been raining all day). Still, it will be another month and a half at least before Fall comes here. Last year Fall came so late that there were still colored leaves on the trees in December.
I should point out that, to me, even 80 F is too much. I prefer 60s or less, and can't wait for winter.

Stop it. Just stop it right now.
Bottom line: Fall sucks because it always leads to Winter which really sucks the most.

I live in Atlanta, so we have longer summers. It won't start cooling off in the evenings until the humidity drops, and that's usually in late September.
It can still be hot all the way through Halloween, although it can also be freezing at Halloween.
Our colder weather begins in mid November, but it's not that cold. Once December rolls around we get a lot of sub-freezing evenings, but they aren't brutal.
The coldest weather (20s at night) are in January and early February.
Once March hits, we're back to balmy weather, and by the end of May it's hot as heck.
I'll take hot over cold anyday. Hot won't stop me from commuting. Cold might. But since I have never commuted on a bike in the winter (just started this month
), I don't know how I'll like it.
I grew up in San Diego, where even a bad weather day is a good day.

It is? It's been near 90s AM and near 110 PM until a thunderstorm broke today.
Fall, the feel, not the calendar, is still over two months away.

I am intent on enjoying each season. This winter I plan on getting some new gear so I can continue having fun.
I tend to have issues with winter being that I find it miserable. My MTB made it more tolerable last year. Perhaps a set of studded tires will improve on that.
This year I hope to forgo the train and bus as much as possible. Instead shorten my ride by 10 miles and do something like 46 miles RT .

Last March I had to attend a friend's wedding reception. I wanted to ride but it was already so hot that I would have been drenched in sweat by the time I got there.

Uhhhhhhhhh where did I write that it was "chilly"? "Chillier", yes, but "chilly"? Nah. I ride ride year round, silly person. Shoot, I rode a century in Central Park in subfreezing temps just to say I had done it.

Right now it's right about 30 degrees outside, and it's only a little after 6a.m.
Excellent conditioning weather for my winter commute that will happen eventually.
Only a few of us in the forum are this priviledged for pre-winter commute conditioning weather!

No doubt, Fall and Spring are my favorite seasons (followed by Winter, but for other reasons). But one thing that drives me up the wall is all of the extra clothing I have to bring.
When I leave in the morning it's between 40 and 60 F (it's been an unusually cool August). By the time I leave for home in the evening, it's often 80. This means I need to bring cool weather gear in the morning (must keep those knees covered!) but keep shorts and a lighter shirt for the ride home.
It's not a big deal really, but on the days I forget to bring shorts for the afternoon it can be pretty uncomfortable. Those are always the days with the widest temperature swing.

Fall should be good. Waiting for the frosty mornings. I want to start figuring out what works, and doesn't work before winter rolls around.

IME, the best cure for winter misery is getting outdoors, which seems paradoxical to them as ain't tried it. I'm a part-time ski instructor, so pretty much every winter weekend is spent outdoors. While it can be harsh in the moment, I've observed that I get many fewer illnesses than my co-workers, who mostly tend to hibernate, and my Gray Cloud of Doom is a lot smaller and more transient. I think the more you can get out there, the more endurable your winter will be.

Pretty nice here. About 52*F every morning for weeks, and 70 in the afternoon.
We could use some rain though. Actually we could REALLY use some rain. We got a couple of storms in the last week, but before that 6 weeks of nothing. Everything is brown and dead unless it's been watered. Plus side is no mowing the lawn

I agree on getting outside. Winter is miserable if you try to stay inside all the time. It's a hell of a lot of fun if you get out in it.
I love taking the kids to the sledding hill. All the other parents are camped at the top drinking coffee and huddling around a fire, not looking too happy. I'm stepping around the wussy high schoolers who are scared to go down the steep hill, and bombing down head first on a little plastic sled, then running back up for more!
I miss being in Michigan's UP where there was enough snow to really have fun, and lots of groomed cross country ski trails. I used to spend 4 or 5 hours a week on the trails.
