Is anybody using moped/scooter hard trunks?

I read a post from some dude who bought a hard trunk for his bicycle. He paid $150 for it. Ouch!

Similar hard trunks with mounting hardware are sold at scooter stores starting at $40.00. Of course, prices go up from there.

As a note, I have seen these things selling in China for $2.00: brand spanking new in the shop. Somewhere during the trip between China and the USA, the price magically becomes $40.00+ dollars.

Anyway, they are handy and can easily be mounted on a bicycle rear carrier. Is anybody else using these?

No, but I did spend a bunch of money on an Otivia box for an Ebike I'm working on.

For my commuter, I just picked up a cheap set of small Nashbar panniers off Ebay for $20. I use it conjunction with my Transit Pro trunk. I can now carry all of my gear, a nice healthy lunch, and plenty of room to spare.

No, I have not tried adapting one of those, but I might, now that you have piqued my interest.

For a while I've been looking at these klickfix items for their CarrierAdapter rack as well as third-party makers of boxes that are compatible with the klickfix rack. The sticking point is that no sellers of klickfix seem to exist here in the USA, so I will be bruishing up on my German to make that purchase.

I should add that armed with your $2-$40 box (or any other for that matter), there is a nifty coupling set for the klickfix rack that lets a non-compatible box become klickfix-attachable for a very modest price (assuming one has the rack). I have a klickfix saddle bag that came with my dutch bike, and the quality engineering made me seek out more klickfix products to no avail (yet).

Bikes: Upgraded Scott Sub 20 in silver; Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 2006 in limited edition Army green; Dahon Curve D3 foldable in white; Dahon MU P24 in blue.

Many beater bikes in Singapore are fitted with these. Very handy. Some use the fullsized ones that can swallow a motorbike helmet. Some use the smaller ones. But they are usually hardmounted, not removable from the rack.
