Here in NY, the bike lane ends about 100 feet before any lighted intersection with a right turn allowed, the intent being that bicycles should filter into the right-most lane which allows you to go straight. Even when there is no bike lane and I'm riding in the shoulder, I do the same anyway. If your bike lane is on the road, not a separated path, it'd probably be safest to do the same.

The only street I regularly have an issue like this is so narrow that even if I move to the left they still can't take a right. If a car is going straight that is in front of a car that wants to take a right they have to wait. They have to wait for me as well.

I always merge into the main lanes when I know there are right turners. Then I act just like a car at intersections I get into the right most the main lane. I don't care if they are a little annoyed but at least I am not run over when the light turns green.

portland has the bike designated box at some intersections. they essentially make the right turn on red neigh possible.

Answer: No, and that is not expected and drivers understand that as long you are in a car.
I don't think we're talking about a situation where there are two lanes, and both can proceed straight through the light. In that case, sure, some cars in the right lane might be "blocking" people who wanted to turn right and could have done so on the red. (though personally, if I'm coming up to such an intersection in my car and have a choice between lanes, I will indeed always take the left one in case people behind me want to turn right. It's just the kind of guy I am.)

What we're talking about here is either a single forward lane and a single right turn lane, or a single forward lane and a wider area where people can go over by the curb and fit in and make a right turn. If I were to block either of those right side places where people can legally turn right on the red when I intend to go straight through the intersection, I'd be a jackass whether I was in a car or a bike. You can't just sit in a turn lane and then go straight when the light turns green.

I stay in the lane that is traveling the direction I intend to go. This means, I get over into the straight lane. Either alone, or I "share" it with the car that's waiting first in line.

I had this very scenario this morning and I turned to the motorist who was crowding me on my left in preparation for his turn and remarked, as I usually do "there is a vehicle in this lane already. It is illegal and dangerous to turn across my lane. By law, you must wait until the far right lane (bike lane) is clear." And then I make it very obvious that I'm noting their license number. Sometimes I even take out my camera phone and take a picture of the plate and the driver. I know it sounds snobbish, so I try to make it sound casual and smile pleasantly when I say what I say (or variations of it). I also inch up a little if it looks like the motorist is intent on getting around me, glancing back to let them know I am asserting my right of way. Most drivers usually respond with a raised hand, acquiescing to my position. I also understand that most motorists don't know the law as it pertains to a right turn when there is a bike near the curb---on roads without bike lanes, I make sure I take the lane if I have arrived first for the expressed purpose of discouraging motorists from trying to go around me---forgetting that a bike is a vehicle and even if there is room to go around, it is unlawful---technically they can't even be beside you, at least in Ontario---and also forgetting that a bike lane is an active traffic lane as is a sidewalk/crosswalk. They just need to be reminded that they need to be patient and wait a few seconds.

Specifically because of their killer bike lanes. (killer = as in dead cyclist; not meant as killer good)

If I can let them make the turn without without creating some other problem, I will.

Otherwise they can wait. Just like sometimes I have to wait behind motorists. How about that.

Road Bike Bumpers:

Two of us were riding in the Right Lane approaching a red light.
The car behind did not have any turn signals blinking.
My friend stopped in the center of the two-lane street, I stopped just to his right, the car stopped behind me.

Voice from car: Can you move the bike; I need to make a right turn?
No, I replied, you did not have your turn signal on when you first stopped.
Voice from car: You need to get on the sidewalk. (There was No Sidewalk).
My friend replied, It is Illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk.
Voice from car: Bikes need to be on the sidewalk, That is Why they don’t have Bumpers.

The light turned green, we rode off laughing.
