Cantilever mount racks
I've seen a canti boss mounted rack on nashbar a while back, for dirt cheap. I guess they discontinued the item, as I can't find it anymore. Are there any other racks like this that's fairly cheap? I think nashbar's version was under $20.

I think you have to order from over seas or catch one on ebay.

I bought one on ebay from this guy. I think they are Nashbars racks. I contacted Nashbar and they said the most recent ones were sent back because the hardware was wrong. The only I found was the rack need some tweaking to fit over the brake bosses

The quality and ruggedness is much better.

I bought one of the NASHBAR ones a few years ago to mount on my Bidgestone xo-2 and it wouldn't attatch to the canti studs on my front fork. Tried modifying it to no avail and eventually made my own. The orangevelo one is probably best option, Rivendel has a same one one made by Nitto that I think runs about 80 bucks.

I bought the one on EBay as well but there were no instructions although it seems pretty easy. I just wonder though, it seems that the weight put on the canti bosses all the way out on the end would put some serious leverage on them..anyone have any experience with problems related to that or brake issues?

I don't think it's much of a problem. In a very hard stop (near lockup of the front wheel), I think a rough estimate of something well in excess of 50% of your weight ends up stressing those canti bosses, so 10 or so pounds of cargo on them shouldn't be an issue.

Hadn't thought of it that way!

Try emailing Nashbar incessantly asking for the rack, it's item Na-Frr if it helps. That's what I did and after a week or so, lo and behold they were for sale again. Coincidence, or an entire batch manufactured to satisfy one nagging client? you decide.
That being said, it works great with a medium sized load, and was a breeze to mount.

The moron shipped the rack in nothing but a *paper* envelope!
So I now have a bent-up rack.
I just sent the idiot an ultimatum to refund everything I paid.

Update: The seller was responsive to refunding the purchase price and shipping costs, so I will amend my rant to a neutral rating.

I've got one that I am not using. No idea where the hardware went, but it's setup to mount. Free to anyone that wants it as long as you pay shipping.

How about this one currently on sale for $9.99 from Nashbar: https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...cat%3A%20Racks
It looks like this:

I do wonder if the technique they use for mounting makes me have to either leave off my front reflector or mount it somewhere else. I imagine front reflectors might be the law in some states.
