nice shots, I ride an MTB because that is the only bike I have as well. It works for most terrain but I am in agreement, that it would be better to get a variation of a road bike or a comfort bike for that matter.

thanks, i will have to look into that bike stand.

i was thinking a mtb because it would be a lot cheaper and would be far less noticeable at school that my scott, seems most people ride mtb's to school. i like riding my bike to work as the bike area is right next to the security station, but at school there arent too many road nice bikes, and i get a little nervous locking it up.

Well that P4 is my pick, and I saw a sweet one on here with chopped bars... looked great.
Plus they have 700c tires so you can run any road tire on them.

And get that stand... I'm gonna make or buy one for my dorm in a year or so.

That setup is pretty well sorted, I've been thinking of doing the same to a Kona Unit 29er. Curious though, how is your rear carrier attached? I don't see any braces. :wtf:?

It's attached by clamps that clamp onto the seat stays right above the dropouts, and I drilled a hole through the seat stay crossbrace at the top of the stays for the third attachment point. Drilled holes in the dropouts for the rear fenders as well.

Beautiful bike... I was just wondering if the commute is all uphill or offroad with that gearing you are running ?

Cause that would be a nice commute.

:D

It's a '92 Bridgestone XO-2. I bought it from a local BF member who had taken very good care of it. He had it set up for touring for his wife. I put the moustache bars back on, replaced the saddle with this Brooks, replaced the clipless pedals with platforms and Powergrips and put the baskets on. I chose the baskets because they were a steal on CL. I love how much I can shove in them but I am thinking I'd like something I can take on and off easier. For the commute I have a bag with clothes and such, my briefcase with laptop, and a kids bag for daycare. Since we just started commuting I've decided if by August we're still going at it, I'll invest in some nice panniers.

nice to see another XO-2 still on the streets ( I own a 93).

Here's my humble commuter / urban getaway vehicle. 2005 Specialized Rockhopper Comp with Hayes discs and Michelin City street tires. No money for racks or lights yet, but at least I'm riding....

I like the MTB geometry and durability, and with street tires it rolls pretty well. I may upgrade the shock to something I can lock out, but not until winter.

nope, the gearing may look strange but the internal Nuvinvi CVT hub on the rear gives me more range of drive ratio than I'll ever need.

Here's my Huffy Ironman. Its days are numbered.. Jamis Aurora is in the mail at the bike shop, but this old thing has served me well, considering it only cost me $150 brand new in the late 90's. 26 miles to work and back 2 or 3 times a week.

It is a Topeak bag and rack combo. I got it at Nashbar on sale and free shipping for $42, but it doesn't look like they carry it anymore. I can fit pants, underwear, socks, polo shirt, and my lunch in the bag along with pump and spare tubes. The rack is quick release so I can still use my bike for recreational riding without the added weight.

I ride with a messenger bag for now, but I put the rack on this weekend and intend to get a trunk bag soon. The Saddle is stock and is OK but i'm looking to put a Brooks on it.

New Bike

Hello all, new to forum and newly returned to biking. I've been commuting to work this past month. This bike is set up for comfort and easy riding. I'll make a few minor additions, but it's pretty much like I want it.

Here's my 1991 Schwinn Cross-Fit in its original Labrador Blue finish. It's is my 3-4 day a work-week commuter. Why burn gas when i can burn calories, right?

I want to swap out the flat bars for some drops. Riding upright is uncomfortable for me sometimes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sure, you'll need a different stem (90 degree or so), brake levers, bar end shifters, and bar tape.

Also, be sure that your bike will have room to steer with the longer (front to back) bars.
