How do you like the internal gear hub? How does it compare to a deraileur bike? I love the look of your bike!

I went with the internal gear hub mainly due to the snowy/icy winters. Last winter was my 1st winter with this bike, & I'm sooo glad I had it. So far, the hub has proved to be very rugged & reliable. The only possible negative would be that it takes a bit more time to change a flat than a deraileur bike, as the hub/shifter hook-up is a bit of a PITA, as well as the obvious lack of a quick release.

Oh, and the nexus hub has got a bit of weight to it, but IMO the benefits of the hub "outweigh" the weight. ;)

New bags! All my other bags were fine, but the more I use these the more I'm impressed by them. I'm starting to see why everyone is always praising Arkel.

I've posted these elsewhere, but this looks like a good thread for them too.

Here's my mid-80s Nishiki Olympic 12 that I started commuting on in February:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...cture003-4.jpg

I wrecked it early on, fixed it good enough to ride, but was looking around for something to replace it when I found this new* Nishiki XRS Sport hybrid:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...Picture265.jpg

*Even though Nishiki hasn't built bikes since 2001, this one is essentially brand new- it came from an estate sale and it still had the original store price tags on it. Original price was $379, it was marked down to $240. I paid $100 for it.

Not shown in the picture is the rack I bought for the back, and I've moved the bag from the Oly 12 to the XRS.

I converted a 2005 Gary Fisher Tassajara Mountain Bike that has been serving me well as my commuter bike. I bike to work three times a week with a commuting distance of 22-24 miles roundtrip.

Seafoamer, awesome bike.
Reminded me of this bike from Hiawatha Cyclery, on which they used a indexed bar-end shifter with a Problem Solvers Inline Travel Agent to control an Alfine hub. Here's the link to the flickr photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hiawath...ry/2347659679/

Wheel Motion, that is sooo unfair, mine is going to be the same color and is on order nut I want it NOW, are those 26" wheels?

Samherst 09-08-08 10:06 AM

Just finished putting things together on Barnaby, an old Fuji Ace with a steel frame and just enough speed to make the commute an infinite joy. It was also nice to find out he had enough clearance for full fenders.

Hi -- Great looking bike! I have been considering the Axiom Hudson Trunk bag for my bike. I have a Superflash light mounted below my seat and a rather short rack so I am concerned about the size of the bag. Can you do me a BIG favor and give me the overall dimensions of your Hudson bag? The websites I have looked at don't agree on the size! Thanks!

Just got this over the weekend - a USED 2008 Trek 7.3 FX! Couldn't believe the guy had my size frame (22.5") and had already added most of the accessories I was going to buy anyway. Saved several hundred dollars so I'm stoked.

It sure is a step up from my old Hard Rock (which I may keep as a learning tool)...

Is that a rear rack mounted on the front?
