What rack is on the front of that bike?

A bent one... :)

It work well enough for my smaller paniers and will get replaced at some point.

As for the brand... I will check in the am.

Here is my '09 Mongoose Paver I just picked up today at Wal Mart. It was $134 after taxes. I wanted something cheap with 700c wheels so this is what I went with. It actually rides nice and quiet since it is a single gear. Of course it has it's issues, and tuning and some mods will be necessary.

Please, let there be sarcasm in this post... you do understand that the bar is flipped the wrong way, right?

It's like the turn-of-the-century flipped bars. ;) Except backwards, too.

You were made to ride a long haul trucker... and vice versa.

Here is the horse, uh, I mean bike I rode in on.

It's a no-name fixie. I really enjoy it, though I don't usually ride fixed.

BarracksSi 04-30-09 06:13 PM

vja4Him couldn't look more different from the most recent LHT rider (or "driver"?) I've met:

http://abikeablefeast.blogspot.com/

All 5'-something, 100-ish lbs of her started on a cross-country journey this past Sunday. I think the bike weighs less than her.

That was an experiment gone wrong, not much I can do with the stock bars, lol.

You could turn them upside down to make them look a bit bad-ass. That's what I did with my commuter bike, whose pictures I'll be posting soon.

Sweet ride... I love green LHT's.

My Trek 7500 has gotten some springtime upgrades so it is now a little faster and smoother... it got a new crank with higher gearing (Truvativ Isoflow), a new rear cassette and chain, an old XT derailer I had kicking around, and I swapped out that riser stem for the stock (adjustable) one. I wanted to play with the bar position as I want to be a little more aggressive and forward on the bike to ease the pain in my back and legs (sciatica sucks). I also replaced the worn headset with an NOS DX threaded headset (circa 1996) which is smooth as silk and very well made.

I also figure that old stem would be nice for longer rides when a bar height adjustment might be desirable and I do like the new position on the bike.

I also swapped pedals... these are MKS 1000's which are a little scruffy but still as smooth a pedal I have.

The shifter and derailleur are just for looks?

I am glad it only has a rear derailleur. More parts on this bike = more trouble.

I think you mean it has a single chainring in the front, right? Those bars remind me of the first bike I ever got on Christmas morning as a kid. My old man put the stem on backwards. Scary thing was that he was a cyclist himself (just not a mechanic) I give him crap about it to this day. :D

With that line of thinking you might find yourself participating in the gear reduction support group at some point.

We also call that the ss/fg forum.

There is some impressive Fred-ness going on here: the Lewis & Clark map shirt, the semi-matching plaid hat and shorts, the bushy beard, the massive tail-light, the plastic water bottle--the list goes on. Respect!

had the camera with me on the trail today so i thought i'd get a pic up here of my first road bike. 1981(i think) schwinn traveller. been riding it for a few months now and i'm definitly liking the feel of a road bike. now i just need to decide whether to invest in better wheels or save that money for an LHT.

This is my commute/worker bee bike these days:

For winter, I used a single speed mtb, with studded tires:

Well I have put 1200 miles on Trek 7100 since I bought it in November. I took it back the shop for my 6 month free tune up and they tell me that I need to replace the cassette and chain. Well I know the 7100 is a low end bike, and it was the first new bike I had purchased in over 35 years, but I still wasn't happy about the prospect of replacing a cassette and chain every six months. I ride everyday to work, a ride of close to 5 miles each way. We only have one car and the wife needs that to drive to work. So my bikes are my only transport to work. So I decided to make my Commuter a little bit more durable and upgraded the following.

Grips- Ergon GP1
Rear Derailleur-Shimano Deore XT
Shift Levers-Shimano Alivio SL-MC20 8 Speed
Cassette-Shimano HG50-I 8 Speed 11-30
Chain-SRAM PC890 7/8 Speed Chain
Rims-Weinmann 700x35, 519, 36-Hole, Silver Alloy Rim
Hubs-Shimano C201
Seat post- replaced the bouncey suspension one for a straight alloy one.

The rims are a little bit narrower then my old rims once my Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 700x32 tires wear out I will replace them with Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 700x28

So now it is sporting a free hub instead of a freewheel set up.

2009 Marlin in its designated parking spot. :D

I had an '07 Marlin that cracked on the seat tube just above the top tube. GF warrantied it with a complete '09 build! I had just purchased a new FS race bike, so this is my new commuter. So far I love it.

I gotta pic on my way home from work, I forget sometimes to look at how nice my commute really is.
I got rid of the cyclocross tires and got the slicks with fenders back on!

noglider 05-04-09 12:47 PM

Wow, Raffi, I thought I was lucky. And I am, but wow.

These deserve to be in full size.
