All 5'-something, 100-ish lbs of her started on a cross-country journey this past Sunday. I think the bike weighs less than her.

You could turn them upside down to make them look a bit bad-ass. That's what I did with my commuter bike, whose pictures I'll be posting soon.

My Trek 7500 has gotten some springtime upgrades so it is now a little faster and smoother... it got a new crank with higher gearing (Truvativ Isoflow), a new rear cassette and chain, an old XT derailer I had kicking around, and I swapped out that riser stem for the stock (adjustable) one. I wanted to play with the bar position as I want to be a little more aggressive and forward on the bike to ease the pain in my back and legs (sciatica sucks). I also replaced the worn headset with an NOS DX threaded headset (circa 1996) which is smooth as silk and very well made.

I also figure that old stem would be nice for longer rides when a bar height adjustment might be desirable and I do like the new position on the bike.

I think you mean it has a single chainring in the front, right? Those bars remind me of the first bike I ever got on Christmas morning as a kid. My old man put the stem on backwards. Scary thing was that he was a cyclist himself (just not a mechanic) I give him crap about it to this day. :D

With that line of thinking you might find yourself participating in the gear reduction support group at some point.

had the camera with me on the trail today so i thought i'd get a pic up here of my first road bike. 1981(i think) schwinn traveller. been riding it for a few months now and i'm definitly liking the feel of a road bike. now i just need to decide whether to invest in better wheels or save that money for an LHT.

Well I have put 1200 miles on Trek 7100 since I bought it in November. I took it back the shop for my 6 month free tune up and they tell me that I need to replace the cassette and chain. Well I know the 7100 is a low end bike, and it was the first new bike I had purchased in over 35 years, but I still wasn't happy about the prospect of replacing a cassette and chain every six months. I ride everyday to work, a ride of close to 5 miles each way. We only have one car and the wife needs that to drive to work. So my bikes are my only transport to work. So I decided to make my Commuter a little bit more durable and upgraded the following.

Cassette-Shimano HG50-I 8 Speed 11-30
Chain-SRAM PC890 7/8 Speed Chain

Seat post- replaced the bouncey suspension one for a straight alloy one.

The rims are a little bit narrower then my old rims once my Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 700x32 tires wear out I will replace them with Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 700x28

So now it is sporting a free hub instead of a freewheel set up.

I had an '07 Marlin that cracked on the seat tube just above the top tube. GF warrantied it with a complete '09 build! I had just purchased a new FS race bike, so this is my new commuter. So far I love it.
