Too many places to fish. I would never make it to work. Humm, I would have to figure out how to carry an undetected fising pole on my commuter bike, I always have one in my car, just in case a fishing trip breaks out.

Strap it to your rear rack, pointing straight up and tie an orange banner on the tip.

Nice set up!

Get the rain fly for the bag. Some REI's are starting to carry it if you have them in your area. Amazon has it as well.

My bike is outfitted almost Identical. MTX bag, SKS fenders, PB super flash LOL.

I actually like a traditional set of panniers in the winter. The fold out are handy but in the winter when you are having to carry a lot more and have a place to stuff a big jacket the MTX starts to show it limitation. Traditional panniers leave the top of the rack free if you need to carry something big so I find that I sometimes swap out the MTX for the Novara Commuters I picked up when I know I need more room.

Summer I love the MTX. Great for a quick stop at the store on the way home. Nice and compact with the panniers folded. The insulated area is great for getting lunch to work. Weekend rides I stick a half frozen water bottle in there with a sub and hit the trail. Break for lunch have a nice cool sandwich and cold drink. :thumb:

The weight will come of. I lost 35lb since I started riding last year. Just got to stick with it and watch portion size on the meals. First couple weeks will make you feel like you were run over but after that you will feel better and better. If you stick with it it is a life change. It is physical and mental.

Good luck with it.

I have the same bag and like it a lot, but be careful with the grab handle on top. It is only sewn in with the piping around the edge and is not very secure. Mine already broke twice and I had to sew it back with fishing line to make sure it was strong enough.

It's not much but it's mine and it gets me around. It's got new FORTE brakes, new adjustable stem, SCRAM MRX-Comp shifters, new SUNLITE rear rack, new taller aluminum handlebars, chrome spoke protector and a Brooks 67 sprung saddle.

Hey nice ride. It says on it "bravo" and "MTN". I just took her out today in the mountains. It's rigid but still a fun time.

Ken,
I am sure you do fine losing weight. I had the same bag, but I wanted more hauling capability.

Ken

Take the other's advice on water and portion control and the pounds will melt away, they've been dropping for me just by cycling to work. The plus for guys like us is we build legs strong enough to haul a fat guy on a bike, but when we slim down we still have powerhouse calves!

ttquattro 05-11-09 12:44 PM

hi what is that thing that looks like a bottle? does it hold things in it?

thanks.

I've been looking at one of these to use as a commuter. I recently picked up a Trek 2.1 and thought I would just use a backpack. Xnay on that. I love my 2.1, but it's not a commuter. I like my Trek 5.3FX and all, but I just found I really like the road bike style.

Bearsong, beautiful ride!

This thread loads so slow. Maybe time to start a new one.

I say, finish up to 200 pages and start a new one. Maybe someone should ask an admin/moderator for that.

The "What road bike do you have?" thread over in the Road forum is somewhere beyond 400 pages, and it doesn't load any more slowly than this one.

What makes it load more or less slowly depends on the size and quality of the images and the servers on which they reside. A 500 kB image on a slow server is going to take longer than one that's 60 kB from a fast site.
