Raleigh Portage Touring bike. Everything is original except the foam handlebar tape. I am going to add a 48cm noodle bar, and a higher nitto stem. The Portage came stock with Raleigh branded 650b sized wheels and tires..

Thanks! It's only a Giant OCR, running Tiagra, but it rides smooth :)

Is that a complete bike or did you part it together yourself?

Been riding for less than a month to campus but here it is. not the first bike that would get stolen from the racks around here. Just put the fenders on.

I've been commuting with a '05 trek 4300 with road tires, great bike, but just received this vintage bike (free!!!), hoping to commute with it. The trek being to upright for the 10 mile each way commute. Though I will be keeping it.

I have spent about 5 hrs and $55 on new tires and brake pads. The ones on it were factory, from the '70s, super hard rubber from the age. This is the first road bike I have every owned, and its a much rougher ride then the trek, but much quicker.

My new all-season commuter, an old classic updated with newer technology: a 2009 Raleigh Superbe Roadster

http://www.chipcom.net/bikes/superbe.jpg

I have a B&M Lumotech dyno headlight and Toplight tailight ordered for it...but of course Harris didn't have them in stock so they'll be another week or so (I shoulda tried Peter White).

My new bike: Assama "Luddite"

Finally, somewhere to post photos of my "baby." :D

I have an Assama "Luddite" I forget what size it is, I'm almost 5'9 and female (yes, I got the standard frame.) It came "naked" no kickstand, fenders etc. I added lights, fenders, kickstand, panniers, under-seat bag, a bell, computer and drink cage. I LOVE MY BIKE! Before this bike I was riding the 10+ year old rusted half to death poor old mtn bike my mom got me for some birthday way back when, which I sadly neglected.

One more, detail of the hardware I added up front: Very cheap! Bell cost $2.50, computer cost $13, light cost what, $7? Came with battery, too. I got the majority of my bike stuff at MEC.

Bazooka Joe 06-07-09 04:27 PM

This is my commuter.
1989 Gazelle Trim Trophy with Shimano 600 7speed and Wolber Profil 36 spoke wheels.
Added a Tubus Logo rack, 35 mm bluemels, Basta backlight and Cateye frontlight. Changed the stem into Cinelli XE, ITM handlebar and put on some new Schwalbe Lugano 700x23 mm.
Rides like a rocket.:giver:

My husband grew up in Quebec, on the Ottawa side and most recently is from Ottawa. He misses MEC so much. That's like the only thing he wants to make sure we do when we visit :) . We're in L.A. and we do have REI, which is also a Co-op. He still thinks MEC is better :)

LOL. My husband always says when he sees a Liquor store, "Liquor? I hardly know her".

Luddite 06-07-09 07:05 PM

MEC is an awesome place to get bike accessories etc.
