Really nice bike, themanmachine! Did you build the rear wheel yourself or get it done at a bike shop. If you did it yourself, maybe you would be up to sharing some detail on how you built it and got it to fit in a mountain frame. Some of us would be eternally grateful. :thumb:

Finally got some p-clamps, rear rack, and panniers... tight fit, but made it work :D

My Major Jake in Full Winter regalia..... Fenders are zip tied and the front is chopped as the carbon fork does not even have a hole in the crown. Works pretty well.

It took me a while to fall in love with this bike, but I am absolutely smitten by it now. This thing will put the hurt on my mountain biking friends on some pretty serious off road climbs :) . But it does not descend all that well :( I am running an Ultegra short cage rear der but a 12/32 cassette. The 38/32 works like a charm for most of Boise's demanding climbing.

The XTR v brakes sucked for me (even with travel agents)....so I put some Tektro Oryxs on and they work much much better!

I have never been much of a rack guy. I have carried all my stuff in a performance oriented backpack for years. It works for me.

My current ride. Late 80's KHS converted to a single speed.

Thinking of throwing on an internal gear 3 speed or 8 speed hub if I can find a way to keep the shifter from being too obvious.

This was one of two primary commuters for quite some time, and since I moved to a non-fixie-friendly location it sees duties almost full time now. Decidedly un-commuterish by forum standards.

Purchased the bike lightly used and have replaced nothing but the tires for I'm guessing 6000 miles. The entire drivetrain is about due for a replacement.

Bar placement is odd because I ride almost exclusively in the drops. I've been meaning to drop them about 1cm, but haven't gotten around to it.

yeah I saw those before, but they're sized too big for my bike so i went with the p-clamps.

31.8mm vs around 28mm'ish... or are there other sizes available? or spacers?

Here is my daily commuter. I recently moved to South Korea and received my mountain bike from the states. This is how I got the thing home. Needless to say, I got some strange looks.

If I'm correct it looks like your at Kunsan.

Never shifted it since I bought the bike. For all I know the shifter doesn't even work. 50 front 12-26 in the rear gets it done. My commute certainly isn't flat, but I'm obviously not living in the mountains either. When I rebuild it will either be a single front, or two closely spaced fronts with a 12-23 in the back.

That's a big dummy frame. Looks like it's been stripped of paint. Maybe polished and clearcoated?

I use this bike mainly for bike polo and short trips around town. The rear-only setup isn't exactly ideal, but it provides ample stopping power, no worse than a coaster brake. The bike isn't really built for speed so I can usually come to a stop pretty quickly.

Yeah, I don't think it's been plated. Maybe it's been painted silver. OR, I guess the simple thing, it's post acid bath dipping in preparation for powder coating (lost of people have powder coated their BD's it seems)

It would be interesting if you would post some detail drawings, or a lot of pictures, of the trailer, including the hitch attachment.

Since my last post (see #4266) I have added: Bontrager Commuter Road Fenders, Bontrager Back Rack l, Trek Panniers, Bell Kickstand and one Nimbus Armadillo tire in back, my favorite bike shop had only one 700x38c in stock so I will replace my front tire when they get a new shipment in.

I built the wheel myself. My fourth wheel ever. The hub is originally spaced 120 mm OLD, I just added about 6 mm of spacers on either side to space it out to ~132 mm or somewhere in between 130 and 135, which forced me to stretch the dropouts ever so slightly. The hub is 59 mm flange to flange, so there was plenty of room leftover for a 5 speed cassette in between the right flange and the right dropout.

No ride like a snow ride.
