Hallo from Harlem

This is my vintage Raleigh 10 Speed mixte, Reina. She's got a new saddle now...and fenders for all this crazy rain we've been having here! Heavy as anything, but I am absolutely nuts about her and for riding in the city.

Changed a few things around: Swapped in a rigid seat post-Forte Precision from Performance Swapped in the Brooks saddle Got my folding basket installed on the rack Swapped the handlebars over, eventually got the indexed shifters to work on the bars and added the bar ends from the original bars Took the toe clips off-seemed to small and bike was very awkward to ride. Without, the bike is a good ride. Putting her through the paces this weekend. Better shot of the bars: http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...y/PA180004.jpg |

The Craig's List picture for my used bike:
http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/...47_25_2009.jpg The latest picture of my new/used bike: http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/...ndBigSkySL.jpg This is my first ever road bike and I love it. Used was the way to go. :thumb: I spent just $300 on the bike and then added a rear rack, new armadillo tires, new bar tape, and flat pedals (because I am afraid of anything else). I think that I got a whole lot of bike for the price. My present commute is 30 miles round trip, 20 miles of which is on a wonderful riverside bike path. I will get a non-cellphone pic up soon. |
Alfine/ Vassago Fisticuff commuter

finally finished this commuter build. I commute 14 miles each way on a beautiful mountain to the sea bike path with nice clean path and i even throw in some fire road and singletrack along the way. I built this up as an 8spd IGH with the Alfine. i am just now making tweaks as i ride more and more. I will be adding a computer and possibly a rear rack whenever Vassago releases their Fisty rack. i think i need some regular flat pedals with straps as i dont like being confined to one pair of riding shoes. so i am looking around at pedals. so far i like the whit industries pedal but, man are they costly. any who enjoy the pics.

Here's my '93 Trek 520: it's a 21" frame, but I never feel comfortable on frames that are 'supposed' to fit - for me: bigger is better. It has the Shimano XT 9-speed 11-34 cassette w/Deore long-cage rear derailleur, and a Truvativ crankset with 52-42-30 front. Touring bikes = great commuters.

Yes, jdMitch, i want to know what bars they are, too.
Here's a picture of my bike which I will be using to commute on when i work up to it: (does that count? probably not:rolleyes:) Anyway, I don't know how far the commute is. Probably it will shake out to about 5 miles or less but I have to get used to riding on one of the busier streets in Santa Fe. Wish me luck!!:o |

I'm guessing the Origin8 Tiki.

they are definitely the soma sparrow. I know those bars very well.

jdmitch's handlebars look like classic North Road bend, turned upside down.
turtlewoman, nice bike. I see it has the original bars and brake levers. I'd love to find some of both of those. Those Mafac brake levers with the plastic covers are one of my favorites. And those bars are wonderful. You'll do fine. Read some articles about cycling in traffic. Some things are counter-intuitive. For example, ride out in traffic, and don't slink away along the very outer edge of the roadway. |
turtlewoman!
sweet bike. love the frame |
1982 Trek 613

I'm doing a slow and thoughtful search for a replacement commuter bike while mourning the passing of my 1983 Raleigh Grand Prix, fallen victim to a snapped top tube.
Is anyone out there riding a Jamis? I tried their steel frame touring Aurora and it felt like I had warp-drives. Their Nova-Pro cross bike felt mighty nice, too. What's the book on Jamis bikes? David in DC |

As always... this thread has too many wonderful bikes to comment on each and every one.
The diversity is astounding, creativity is unmatched, and you are all what I consider to be real cyclists. My ride for today will be this little fella... he has been getting neglected of late. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ronglight2.jpg |
