Maybe he can get his chiefs of staff to run that tire pump for him.

The new president rides a Trek comfort bike (the bike is either really new, seldom ridden, or cleaned up really well). I've never noticed a helmet with only a single strap before. Seeing him towing his daughter like that is a bit sad because we all know that the girls won't be able to have many childhood cycling adventures. I wonder what sort of free bike he'll get from manufacturers once he's in office? If he's not into uncomfortable racing bikes (road or mountain) it'll be tough for any big producers to come up with an American made rig. |
Looks a little small for him, no?
Maybe it's Michelle's? |

Thanks. It's ok as of now. We'll see how it goes after they are broken in a bit and bumped around.
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/475/fenders1ev4.jpg Hoggster, I noticed that your front fender does not go all the way to the front. Was this because of bike racks used on public busses? Such as the following... http://www.bicycleracks.com/busrack_video.asp Do you find any downside in the performance of your front fender? |
I'm sure Obama will have no shortage of freebies from Trek and Cannondale just like W. has gotten.
|
It looks like a Trek 7000 Hybrid. Standard...thought he made big bucks? Not that there is anything wrong with these bikes.
|
That is a good reason, I suppose. My reason was because the front brake comes down just above the tire. First I notched it out, then I had to cut the bracket that holds it up to the fork...It worked, but it was so flimsy that it made a bunch of noise every time I hit a little bump.
I have been aiming for every puddle I see to test out these bad boys and I have had no problems to speak of. |

Only last week I upgraded this Cross Check with a Rohloff hub. It has left a big hole in the bank account! The bike & wheels were built up at home as you can tell from the amateurish workmanship! |
sweet crosscheck! what brand and type of handlebars are you using on it?
|
The handlebars are a no name generic 'Nitto Dove bar' look-alike type I found at a LBS, aluminum & quite cheap. The pedals are Shimano MX 30, a flat downhill variety.
|
I was wondering about the hub dynamo. What brand/model, are you happy with it in terms of resistance and light output? Those wheels don't look amateurish to me, I assume they weren't your first. Nice bike.
|
Nice Cross Check, I'm debating building a Karate Monkey up with an internal gear some time in 09. Finance Gods allowing.

I should have posted my photo of my bike with the front and rear lights being this is a commuting thread. I've got a Planet Bike Blaze 1W on the front and a Superflash on the back that attaches to the huge Trek tail bag.

Sweet, sweet Crosscheck; very nice speakers, but those curtains with that couch?! Ouch!
I really like how your bike, to a casual observer, would seem to be some kind of fugly mutant, but to readers of this forum, it's a tricked out dream ride. It looks like you figured out exactly what you need and nailed it with no compromises. Definitely not a bike shop build, but in a good way. |
Thanks for the compliments on the “Mutant Cross Check”!
Some info about the components: * the front hub is a Schmidt (very low drag; wired to Busch&Müller LED lights) with a Velocity Dyad rim; * rear hub is Rohloff with a Mavic A719 rim; * the shiny tires are Marathon Pluses; * Brooks Flyer saddle (aged version, so quite comfy); * Shimano Alivio cranks with BBB 42 tooth ring & MX 30 pedals; * sorry about the poor quality curtains & couch Chumbolly! |
This used to be my main off road ride and now I have a 2009 Trek 8000 for trail duties. I replaced the suspension fork with a tange steel one. Added fenders and the batteries for the Princeton light is tucked in the water bottle. I have the same light mounted on my helmut and all my stuff is carried in a Camelbak cloud walker. Besides my off road commuter this my winter/bad weather bike.

I was riding a Bianchi Premio up until the dark and dreary night cast it's evil upon me and the Bike fairy decided it was time to go with him... I was sad.

1990's Mongoose with rigid fork, STX cranks, XT derailleurs, some rims from an old GT, bull horn GT bars, and 2.1 Panaracer Fire Pros (I also have street tires for when the trails are closed and I have to ride on the street). |

Been riding this sturdy guy to work since 1994. Favorite commute then was down Canyon from Sugarloaf to Boulder, Colorado. Now we're on a mellower run, Menlo Park to Mountain View via Foothill Expressway.

That is a very nice vintage basic Panasonic that has clean lines, and is easier to work on than these postmodern, plastic, gizmositic carbuncles. Oh.... and I imagine it did not set you back more than $150. |
