(also this is my first run posting pictures, so if this doesn't work, please blame the clogged tubes of the intarwebs) So here is Darkness: http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/u...9/IMG_0797.jpg Since these pics, I've put a PB Blaze 1/2 Watt headlight and my PB Superflash on. Up next is a disc brake-compatible rear rack, so I can get my junk off my back and back into my panniers. |

That is a sharp looking ride, Look into the Topeak quick track system for you rack & trunk bag set up. You will probably have to order the rack for your Disk brake set up but it is a nice system

Thanks, XB. I had to mock up some spacers to get them mounted around the disc brakes.
I had wanted to cut them, but wasn't sure how... I don't have a dremel. I guess a hacksaw and a file would work ok though. Does anyone have any neat suggestions?

Nice job installing the fenders. They look perfect. One thing that you might want to do is knock the ends of the stays off so they don't stick past the fender and then put the rubber tips back on. I use a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel. Adds a nice finishing touch.

Thanks, Timber 8. Funnily enough, I just ordered that exact rack from Nashbar yesterday. I've already got a set of panniers, but I may look into a trunk bag if I need more space.
Sharp bike. :thumb: |
I've been commuting for the last 3 weeks on this craigslist find: It's a 1979-81 Fuji Royalle. It was in almost new condition when I picked it up...just a few scratches on the frame.

My beater bike
2 Attachment(s)
I wanted to build a beater bike for the upcoming school year. I found this Raleigh MTB on Kijiji (a group of free, local, community classifieds websites in Canada) for 40 bucks. I added riser bars, a comfortable seat, and a rack that I scored from my LBS for 5 bucks (it bolts right up to the original frame holes!) I also added some tires I had kicking around and since the pics some reflectors, lights, and a bell. Next some fenders and a pannier. Total investment: about half of what I plan to pay for the pannier that I want.

hartsu - damn nice setup.

Integrated tail light
Very nice bike! What kind of fenders are those - particularly the rear one with the integrated tail light? Is it powered by your dynamo hub?

Fenders are cheapest noname one from LBS, 2 rear fender because its hard to find long enough front fender. Rear "light" is actually only reflector. |
'71 Gitane Tour de France. It had been left near the furnace in a welding shop for nearly 25 years. All original except the handlebars, cranks, and pedals. Fenders, rack and saddle bag were added.

Looks like all you need is some gum rubber hoods and the usual assortment of rack/baggage, fenders and lights! :thumb: |

Ok. Here are mine. I try and commute on them all. Not at the same time.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2619/...bb1bcbc4fa.jpg 2009 Yeti Arc-X cyclocross. The newest arrow in my quiver. Sweet ride. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2527/...f944d1a278.jpg 2008 Gary Fisher Presidio cyclocross converted with a flat bar. The switch to the flat bar set up made the whole bike 2lbs lighter. The front end is unreal light compared to all my other bikes. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/...6e2deb566d.jpg 2001 Rocky Mountain Team Only Vertex with BionX PL-350 Electric Conversion kit. So much fun. Don't knock them till you try them. It doesn't make you lazy. I pedal as hard as I normally do, you just end up going faster for the same effort. In fact it's awesome for your rest or easy days. You can soft pedal and still get to work in a decent time. Before I had my ebike, on a Monday after a weekend of long hard riding. Usually I was too tired to want to ride my bike and would drive. With the ebike I ride and get active recovery and still get to work quickly. I love it. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2626/...9bed62ba08.jpg 2006 Cannondale F4000sl. This bike is deceptively fast with slicks. I do some of my best commute times on it, even compared to my cross bikes. I'm just comfy and confident on it. The disc brakes inspire so much confidence the riding position is perfect for an aggresive commute. The Fox Terra Logic Valve, Lefty Fork is perfection. It is fully rigid when you want it to be and absorbs when you want it to. No imput required from the rider, it just knows what you want. Plus the bike is just damn light. It should be great considering it had an MSRP in Canada of $5999.99 in 2006. No, I didn't pay that. Last but not least. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/...06d62143a4.jpg 1997 Rocky Mountain Cardiac. Fully rigid. Just a solid quality machine. The whole drivetrain has been replaced to around a Shimano Deore level. This is my winter beater commuter and early spring and late late fall training bike. Still going strong. I hope you enjoyed viewing my collection, LesMcLuffAlot |
Bluemeanie- Love your Fuji Royale!!!! I have one that I bought new in 1979. It is now a single speed and I love riding it! Love the Fuji cranks!!!

Lotta nice rides to be seen in these pages ..
Ive been commuting since June 1st on this ole Trek 820 that I won a few years back in a Children's Miracle Network raffle..Cost me all of $10 for two tickets :thumb: .Total round trip is 11.66 miles and Ive added Planet Bike lights, Holux 245 GPS, Odyssey Triple Trap pedals and a few stickers..For the last week or so ive been staying on just the 48/16 gearing to see if the SS Kilo TT I'm lusting after is really for me..Ive read though that the feel is different without the rear derailleur in the picture.. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...s/DSCF3011.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...s/DSCF3012.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...s/DSCF3014.jpg |

I got my new commuter finally done....except for some extras I want to get now, like a carradice bag. It's a '72 Schwinn Super Sport that I liberated from an elderly friends basement where it had been living for the past 36 years. I stripped it down, cleaned it up, added moustache bars, a Brooks saddle and just one gear. It's a really nice riding single speed, and I'm going to use it as my around town bike. First train/bike commute on it tomorrow. Here are some before and after pics.
