I used to live in your neighborhood and I loved it's diversity. Fort Tryon Park was one of my favorite spots in the city. I called the neighborhood rural Manhattan because I had to walk more than a block for either a Duane Reade or Starbucks. Oh those were the days...

Nice older French steel. Nice conversion!

BTW - how deep in the head tube is the stem. Looks dangerously shallow, based on how much is exposed :twitchy:

You might want to check your chain length...

Gorgeous bike.

I could pull out another 30cm before I hit the minimum insertion line. This stem is crazy long. It's a Nitto Technomic.

Thanks. Yeah the chain looks a bit short. Problem I am having is getting the RD to wrap enough chain when in the small chainring. Current gearing is 46/30 front 13-32 rear 7 speed freewheel.

Wow, that Ross is a beauty! I made the mistake of passing one of those up at the flea market last year, still kicking myself...

I just recently finished my new commuter, it replaces a 52lb Schwinn collegiate. The only original parts on it are the front derailleur, cable clips, headset and bottom bracket. Most of the other parts I had lying around so this was a very inexpensive build. It's a lot of fun to ride, I particularly like the bar end shifters. It gets daily use riding to work, on top of that I have not driven my car once this past week. I would like to add some lights to it in the near future. Nothing on it is very fancy.... except the one Campagnolo nuovo record skewer on it

Very nice job on this before/after. Lovely Lotus, and the contrast is strong. It's just the sort of before/after post I love! Great work!

Nice bike but change this chain ASAP! If the chain is too short, it will be at risk for jamming and possibly ruining the rear derailer if you accidentally shift into the large-large combination. Never run with a chain that is too short, except in an emergency.

Real pro job on that Lotus mkeller!

canyoneagle 08-28-09 01:35 PM

noglider 08-29-09 06:22 AM

65er, what kind of rear hub is on your Twenty?

Sixty Fiver 08-29-09 12:22 PM

Tom,

My Twenty is a fixed gear with a double stepped (flip flop) hub in the rear.
