RogerM,
That is a stellar find, and is definitely another case in point for the potential values that can be found (amidst the total junk) in the Craigslist treasure trove.

Nice job!

Thanks Irclean and Canyon.

The rack will probably go back on this week, but I have to clean it up first and refurbish the rusty hardware. I've been riding with a backpack for so long, I don't know what or if I'll ever strap anything to the rack.

On a different note, I have found that the 7 speed works OK, but wished for an 8 or 9.

I had a 720 and it was a decent rider. I really enjoyed it. 4130 tig welded double butted frame as I recall. Pretty light for a hybrid.

Mine was a 91 I think and it had suntour index shifters that were JUNK. Be glad yours has the Altus. The bike is pretty close to a touring Geometry. Those will convert to drop bar without much fuss. The older ones came with touring forks complete with mid fork brazeon.

I'd keep the rack. Damn handy on a commuter. Slap some Freddy fenders on it get a cheap trunk bag and ride the hell out of it!

1999 Trek Multitrack - great bike for 100km commutes that have a bit if everything.

That has been the question of the day... it is a stoker stem (I helped make this) for a friend's tandem and the silver rod is the seat post which is attached to a saddle.

Nice... yesterday I was packing my work clothes, rain gear, tools, and a set of tandem cranks for my own bike.

Plan to send a bunch of this stuff out ahead by car on the weekend and then I can lighten up my ride.

thanks. the only other aluminum frame full-size bike i had was a mid 90s glue bonded trek 7000 i believe. i have since had a thing for the oversize aluminum. this bike had the componetry i was looking for...mainly an internal gear hub for low maintenace. i guess there is about 500 miles on this bike and it has done well. the frame has such a predictable pleasant solidness to it i look forward to riding it.

I wanted to test ride the Metropolis while I was narrowing down my choices for an IGH bike. Unfortunately, the only RM dealer here in town wasn't willing to stock them and therefore didn't want to order one in just so I could test ride it. Ditto the Brodie Ocho (he's also the only Brodie dealer in town) so I've never seen either bike in person. BTW I ended up with a Norco Ceres and I couldn't be happier, but I still would have liked to test ride the other 2 bikes.

Roger. I have worked on a few Treks like that one and they are pretty good bikes. Like other posters have mentioned its a pretty good platform to build up to whatever you want. Also ride it for a while, but you might not need more speeds just change the gearing with a different freewheel or crank or both. It sounds like you might have that type of stuff lying around. Anyway thats a good commuter. Enjoy.

Nice. Love the Brooks on that bike, too.

I'm not a fan of the current trend towards rotating the handlebars so the hoods are so high (brake levers past vertical, hoods past horizontal) - the aesthetics just don't appeal to me, but I'm sure it is comfortable.

I've never actually noticed it. I see what you're saying though after looking at the pics. I bought this bike built up this way (except for the saddle and fenders), and I haven't changed anything but saddle height etc. It is very comfortable this way though. I'll have to experiment next time I redo the tape :thumb:
